Again, I have nothing against gloves. I use them for fixing the fire. My furnace gets hot & it's easy to burn yourself throwing in the wood. I'm enclosing a picture of myself with gloves to show I'm not ashamed to wear them. But for casting I only use one on my right hand. I know I'm taking a chance but I've never found a glove I'm comfortable with while holding a mould. I've cast tons of bullets without having that hand burned. Can't say that about the furnace though.

Ove' Gloves. Kevlar and cotton, wouldn't cast without them. I can pick up hot bullets and moulds with no problem as long as I don't hold onto it for too long.

I use mechanic gloves. Some heat protection without having to give up dexterity.

You know, I may have to amend a previous post. I voted that I always wear gloves, and I always have, BUT yesterday I was working with a somewhat troublesome mold, a lot more fiddling and farting than actually casting. I did do it barehanded so that I had more dexterity and facility, and I have to admit I seemed to get a lot more accomplished and got no burns in the process.

Funny thing, about a week ago I was doing a normal casting session. I took my gloves off to do something, but then noticed I hadn't droppped the sprue off my last cast. So I did it sans gloves and went to do whatever I had stopped to do. It only took about a minute or two, and when I put the gloves back on, I discovered that a piece of that last sprue had fallen INSIDE one of the gloves where I had set them down. So I got burned from inside the glove!

I am the worlds biggest kultz, accident prone.
I can't count the number of times I have bent over to pick something up and when straightening up, krack the top of my head on something sticking out. One time not long ago I walkedfrom the kitchen to the living room to watch a short bit on TV, then turned and step toward the kitchen, only to find that the doorway had moved a foot or two to the left. Split the skin wide open on my forehead one that one. So, to get closer to the point here, I have owned and ridden a motorcycle for 40 years and we riders have a saying about safetly. ATGATT. Meaning All The Gear All The Time. So when casting, ATGATT for me or I might burn myself to death. Simple as that!!

glove on both hands, mechanix brand stuff. I tried something thicker when i first started casting and didn't care for the added thickness and reduced mobility.

Leather batting gloves. Gives me great feel compared to other types. And keeps me from getting splatter burnt and flinching like a big dog and making things worse. I have taken to wearing the batting gloves for wood working and general handyman work around the house. They work great for me.

Don't remember how many times I've pulled off a glove to pick my nose or whatever & then tried to pick up a mold or something hot..............duh!

I guess if I didn't wear protection then I'd be more aware..........but for now I think I'll stick with using PPE, less hurt!

I wear tig welding gloves. Snug enough fit but offer pretty good heat protection too.

I wear my firefighter gloves, kept my old pair when the dept got us new ones. They are the best. I could cast without handles if I was so inclined

I have gotten so use to the gloves that casting would feel awkward without them. I get that rhythm going just fine with them on. Use a basic pair of welding gloves. I also wear a pair of glasses. Don't want to be one of those saying how stupid was I not to ....

After wearing a full pot down the front, I wear a 100% cotton denim shirt, jeans, boots, welding gloves, full face shield, leather apron and I cast standing up with the pot screwed down to a very heavy, stable bench.

I just can't stand them, not endorsing the practice, just admitting an error. I do always wear goggles, long sleeved shirts, jeans, and boots. It was a long time ago when the tinsel fairy visited, but I still remember her.

I always use gloves because I dont want to hammer whoop my sprue plate. so I cut the sprue with my gloved hand. Usually I use two gloves but not always. I however always have a glove on to cut the sprue. I only own one Cheap mold now and I dont intend to hammer whoop my expensive molds when an easy flick of a gloved hand cuts the sprue just fine.

Also lucky enough to have an endless supply of firefighter gloves, after each fire call out any used gloves are usually replaced, hierarchy protocol, expensive, but good for me.

You can cure that problem by building a couple miles of barbed wire fence.
When you get the gloves broke in to fit the curl of your hand you will gets the creeps before looking at a dangerous job without gloves.

(i do wear an apron, boots, and a face shield though)
