    4895 & 160gr in 7.62X54R

    Gentlemen,

Spent a nice, lazy, Saturday morning at the gunshow with my son and my father-in-law. Also met a board member, Chuck (4060may), great guy. Spent some time at his table shooting the breeze about boolits.

Scored a good deal on some (canister) IMR-4895 in metal cans. Got 3 lbs for $9.00/lb, seals on the cans still intact. The cans were SEVERELY dented, apparently from a run in with a tow motor at the warehouse, so they couldn't be sold at retail.

Can someone suggest a load for a 160gr, plain base boolit (311241) in the 7.62X54R?

    Thanks

    SSB

That's a kind of slow burning powder to be using with a PB bullet that light. I'd really suggest 8-12 gr of Unique working up until accuracy goes south. However, if you must use the 4895 (it is a very good powder for 170-210 gr GC'd boolets in the 1700-200 fps range) start down around 25 gr and work up to 30 using a 1 gr dacron filler over the powder.
