    MiHec H&G #503 .44 Caliber Keith

My two moulds from the Group Buy came today. I cleaned the moulds & sprue plates with alcohol & nylon brush. From there to hot soapy water. Once clean & dry I mounted the handles & placed them on the Master Pot to warm. I used straight wheelweight alloy at 750 degrees.

I cast for 15 minutes with poor results. Raised the temp to 800 & still to many rejects. At 850 good bullets began to fall from the moulds. You might say that's a little warm but for the new moulds & this batch of alloy, that's what it took. Maybe next time I can run cooler.

    Moulds came well packed:

One of the moulds after a bath:

    Now the specs:
Bullets measure exactly as said, .432

And sure enough 3 random bullets weighed exactly 258 grains, yes all three:

    Did I say exactly?

OK - I am JEALOUS!!! Waiting on mine! If it is as good as the 45-200-LSWC mold from MiHec, it will be awesome.

I have wanted this mold/bullet and wanted to cast and shoot it in a 44 SPC for about 25 yrs. I just could never afford to have a custom 44 SPC built on a Ruger BH 357. The Lipsey 44 provided the launch ramp for it all!

FWIW - Have been doing a little reading on brass molds. This one will be my first. Apparently they require a little more heat and faster casting...

Mine hasn't shown up yet, so I cranked up the six cavity aluminum version and watched Russell Crowe as Robin Hood out in the boolit factory. My LEE MAGNUM MELTER is set at 850...don't know how close that is to reality...and you can run with them. Uncle Elmer really got it right with this boolit...great accuracy in all of my 44 revolvers at any velocity.

The OLD WEST BULLET MOULDS clone of 429352 and Miha's hollow base wad cutter really sold me on brass moulds. So I bought this one and am signed up for the 44 caliber hollow base wadcutter. Did I mention I like 44 wadcutters.
