Is WC820 suitable for the 45/70? If so what would be a good starting point?

Steve, I tried 17gr. with ~460gr. CB's and got no pressure signs and excellent accuracy. Beagle uses 18gr. if I recall.
SteveB....Been a while since I've updated Maven.
I've worked up to 25.0 grains of WC820 in a Marlin .45/70 with the 300/335 grain bullets and 24.0 grains with the bigger bullets up to 500+ grains with no pressure signs.
Velocity with the 300 grain series is 14-1500 FPS and with the bigger stuff from 12-1300 FPS.
No fillers.
Gives a pretty clean burn./beagle
500+ bullets and
diplomacy is being able to say, "nice doggie" until you find a big rock.....
Not cast, but with coated bullet and using TC loading data straight outa one of the manuals 30.4 WC-820 (SLOW LOT) and 300 grain funny coated boolit were performers outa my 16 inch TC barrel. Velocity within 10 fps of published also.
Did not try it with boolits because I have yet to get my TC barrels to perform with cast and I have several molds bought with planned use just for one of the TC chamberings. I will be the first to admit with some early dismal failures, I gave up rather quickly and shoot the cast where they do well.
FOR THE RECORD, I SHOT MY BATCH OF WC-820 SIDE BY SIDE WITH A CAN OF H-110 AND GOT COMPARABLE RESULTS. I will say that this powder has been in my possession over 10 years so it is NOT current WC-820.

Thanks fellas. My lot of WC820 is close to AA9.

I haven't tried WC820 in .45-70, but I like 35 grains or so of WC680 behind 325-340 grain cast boolits in .45-70. I use Dacron fluff filler.

Been a bit since I have been around. Thanks for the info gentleman
