    Using the Star Today

The question comes up now & then: Can you seat gas checks with a Star Sizer/Luber? Doe season is in here but it’s snowing & cold so I stayed in today & sized a few bullets which happened to use gas checks. Please excuse the messy bench but here’s how I lay them out.

When using gas checks be sure the sprue cutter made a clean cut.

Place the check on the bullet.

I size these nose first so place the bullet in die.

    I call this properly seated.

    Finished several hundred.

    Nice bullet, nice meplat.

So do you need a punch the size of the boolit to keep the check from cupping?

I size mine nose up to get the check to crimp.

No but it needs to be within reason size wise.

This is the same punch I use to seat 357 checks which I also size nose first. I have special punch for the 45-70 bullet.................Creeker

Using a proper sized punch is important to seating gas check in a Star. The punches I use are .010" smaller than the boolit. Just as LAH has shown it works very well.
