A beautiful gun. You have the right to be proud.

Beagling works well. If you have a sizer the size you want, you can make them round. However, don’t forget, that when you shoot, the barrel will size for you too.

I’ve only heard good stuff about Smokes. I like having different colours so I can easily tell the different between different loads.

This would be my choice. Not sure if that price is still good.

I think it comes to what the price is and what type of gun. If it’s an antique muzzle loader, and the price is right, give it a shot. If it ends up being a wall hanger, it still has a value.

We’ve had milking goats for almost twenty years now. Goats are the hardest animal to keep penned in. They need to learn what an electric fence is. When scared they bolt forward, not like most other...

I have found that the best thing for padlocks is graphite, especially in cold temperatures.

It’s getting harder and harder to find decent files these days. There’s just too much imported junk for sale. If you buy something inexpensive, you’re taking the risk that it will dull quickly. If...

I hate changing handles. I have a few, but certainly not a pair for every mold. I spray down my molds and handles after use with Ballistol and store them together in several Tupperware boxes. When I...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Most boat anchors are not made of lead. Maybe some small ones. Be careful melting lead that has been exposed to water. A small amount of water imbedded inside can ruin your day. I’ve experienced it...

There are a lot of different manufacturers of unjacketed boolits. Im sure there is a lot of variation. However, what I’ve come to believe, is that most of boolits are a hardened alloy. The reason...

Don’t sell it. You will wish you hadn’t in the future. Inflation is here and will be hanging around for a good while.

Heat your lead until your test pours start to get frosted. Then turn your pot down a little and start casting. It’s always worked for me. At least most of the time.

Thanks for the info. I normally clean my BP guns first with water and dish soap and blow them down with compressed air. Then I put a liberal amount of Ballistol (from a can) on a patch and swab the...

I always thought that the base of Ballistol was mineral oil. I don’t know much about water soluble oils. Is mineral oil water soluble? Isn’t it originally from crude oil?

Ballistol is now offering a product they call Gunex. As the name implies, it’s especially for use with firearms. Is there really a difference between it and original Ballistol? Is there something...

What size aperture are you using? I have a diopter type on a target rifle. It gets much better when I go down to 1mm or smaller, if there’s enough light.
I think pure lead would be best if you have it available. Better chance of the grit imbedding in it.
