I wanted one of those now 278s but they've been out of stock for a while now. If their 376-329 was bigger Diameter I'd get that. But my barrel slugs at .3765

Did you try that bullet without paper patching it?
What are you sizing the bullet down to and patching it up to? What were your bore and groove diameters?
I'd like to cast for my#1 in 375 h&h. With the 12" twist I expect accuracy to drop off somewhere between 2000 and 2400 fps. I'm really trying to get jacketed performance out of cast in this cartridge...
Forum: Muzzleloading.
I can find the whole rifle but not having luck with just the barrel. What would you say minimum barrel length for a muzzle loader should be. This was 22: from the factory but I may go a little...

All I have is pewter no straight tin. Up to about 80lbs now

I won't be shooting hollow points. Probably just deer and hopefully bear with flat nose bullets. Maybe they'll hold together enough to give me reliable exits on black bear sized game.

I thought 16:1 was supposed to fall in the 10-11 hardness range

I also am going to get a Marlin 1895 cowboy soon. Im hoping that it will like the 457193 in 16:1. Don't plan on shooting that terribly fast. Probably slightly over bp levels with smokeless.

Seems like most of the lead I find in my area is pure. Either pipe or sheet. I have about enough pewter smelted to make about 1000# of 16:1.

Any of you guys still using 16:1 alloy for .44s? Almost everything I read on here is recommending hard alloys. I plan on using the Lee 430-310 with a gas check at around 1300 fps. Think it will hold...

Never got to use my muzzleloader last year because I filled all of my tags during our regular bow season so I let my brother take it out. He missed a deer with it and said that he cleaned it and...
Forum: Boolit Lube !
Definitely won't be powder coating any of mine. I took a 6 or so year hiatus from casting and the forum and when I get back everyone is painting their bullets. Kinda reminds me of those "donk" cars...
Forum: Boolit Lube !
Do you guys size and lube all of your bullets in a big batch or just size and lube what you're going to reload. Just ordered some carnauba blue and am going to start casting for my 44 on Monday. Will...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I thought that I had read somewhere that it's hard and gets softer over time but couldn't find documentation on it when I was searching. My pewter seems pretty hard. Couldn't scratch it with my...

I'm going to start casting for my 44 Magnum soon using the Lee 310 gc mold. I want to try out a 16:1 alloy like Keith developed the 44 with but using pewter instead of straight tin as it's dirt cheap...
I'm kinda torn between 375 h&h and .45-70. I know they're both capable of killing the same animals but a really good bolt action 375 just tickles me in all the ways my woman can't lol.
Found it but is there ruger/ tc data as well? I've seen some loads that say Ruger or Thompson but not in the Lyman book. Seems like most of the loads I see popping up on here have more than the max...

I pan lube 4570 and made a cookie cutter for removing the bullets. Used a fired 458 win mag case and I drilled out the primer pocket and put a wooden dowel in for a pushrod to knock the bullets out....

Eventually if the revolver likes cast bullets then I'll probably get a lube a matic. But I'd hate to invest the money into getting one till I'm sure it will shoot cast well.
Guess I had a brain fart there. I have an older one without that load in it and a Lyman load data book without it in it. Probably should order the updated version of them.
Anyone have any published data for the Lee 310 in the 44 Magnum. I see people throw out lots of loads in the forums but haven't seen any actual published data for it. I'll probably use h110 or 2400...

Do you lube it with anything before you seat the check in the sizer? I'm thinking I may spray them with hornady one shot first.

The local range I go to bulldozed the berm this spring to a nice layer of clay. They recently opened it up for the year so there wasn't really much there but how would you go about recycling from a...
Forum: Gas Checks
Never really cared for tumble lubed bullets. They seem to attract dirt and gunk to the noses of loaded cartridges. Seemed like dirt was always finding a way onto my .45-70 boolits when I was hunting.
