Great food for thought here.
Steel would be cheaper, but I need a small barrel for my .44 Navy. The move lost mine. They actually cost more than a new revolver in brass on Ebay.

Does anybody know of someone who can machine in a steel shim to shoot strong loads in a brass frame revolver?
I know it can be done and it eliminates the "stretch" of the frame.
The recoil makes...

How many grains of fffg can I use in a 30-30 with either 150, or 180gn?
Picked up a real sweet Marlin 30-30. I want to try Pyrodex P in it. I did this in my Marlin 45/70 and it is great! My shoulder is toast, and the reduced recoil brings back the pleasure.
Anyone done...

The hang fires makes it sound like air space. Might be some crud preventing the casting to go all the way down.
For my .54s I use a patch crumpled up and placed under the casting. I also use 60gns...

Well, I got one, got out my Handy Dandy fixem up tools, proceeded to center punch the top stock strap, then drill. I used two drills, one to start it with, and the other to fit the tap.
The first...

I use Clover on my patches for the first ten patches. Works real well for me.

I will not have anything to do with those silicone brained, antithistical antichrists. Never.
I want to live.

Before I get one, has anyone used the Lyman Tang sight?
I have an 1895 Marlin, and I have large hands. I could use the Skinner peep sight, but I have always liked the Lyman sight?
Does it...

My question is,
Since I have no experience with a 38/55, is reboring a rifle from Thutty-thutty to 38-55 a realistic choice? I have no experience with a 38/55, and since my experience with a 45/70...

I use 70 gns of pyrodex in mine. Great groups, low recoil, and I fire a 405 gn lee casting. I have fired a bunch now, no rusting after cleaning, no **** in the internals. All good to go.

As my second son was placing 4th in the Olympics, my first son, Is now gone. I got the call yesterday.

I tapped one tree back in the late '80s. Ended up with 40 gallons of sap, that I boiled down to get 2qts of serious syrup. It was black maple and it was so sweet my teeth hurt when I had it. It was...

It really isn't just that it is hygroscopic, it is also corrosive. Pyrodex has its issues. I did indeed spend time cleaning the rifle. It was real clean though, no leading, no residue to speak of. I...

I just got back from the range. I got this here 1895 Marlin, in 45/70. I do like it. Well, I just cast some Lee 405 solids, with pure lead. Large heavy bullet.
Loaded her up with 65 gns of Pyrodex....

WHat I do with the aluminum molds, is to smear Clover on a casting, and cast through a galvanized nut. This I eject, and add Clover. I take a wrench and then turn it in the other cavity, same with...

Lee has stepped up to the plate here. Polished cavities, accurate alignment, even put the mold number on the mold itself. I will soak it up in mineral spirits overnight, and cast away.

Went to Ace, and found a tub of JPW. Price was right, so that is the way to go.
The Turtle did not look like it melted into well.

I have some Turtle wax on hand, can I combine with Alox 50% and Turtle wax 50% to make a good tumble lube? I can add mineral spirits to loosen the mix?

I have used Lee pots for years. This last one for over a decade. A 20# pot. No drips at all. When I got this one as I got my others, I removed the spigot, put Clover on it, replaced it and turned it...

If you take a Lee, .54 cal, then smear Clover on the casting, with a sheetrock screw in the sprue, and rotate it, then, you might get there pretty quickly.
Might try it, who knows?

I have a 45/70 Marlin 1895. It is a Ballard rifling barrel. Now, with the castings, are they pure lead, or a WW mix?
I have lots of both, so I can blend my pot.
Also, anyone have any experience...
