Forum: Factory & Surplus Powder
By the way I am using Magnum primers, so that’s not it. I still think it’s the load density. I loaded up a few with a tuft of Dacron to keep the powder tight against the primer and those had no...

I am in the same boat. I’m becoming convinced that Hunter doesn’t have good ignition unless it’s close to 100% case capacity or pretty high pressure. I’m shooting 180gr flat base Interlocks and 180gr...

I’m pretty traditional with stocks, but certainly no fine woodworker. I’ve been happy with the following technique..
Sand down to about 320 grit, before the final sanding wipe down the stock...

That is my exact method as well, and what I taught my son to do.

I put together one of those “kits” you used to be able to buy from Midway, mine was a Polish folding stock paratrooper model, for those unfamiliar the kit was a rifle with the barrel and the receiver...

I have that mold and had to go to a little slower powder to get reliable cycling on a couple different semi autos that I have tried it in. I haven’t tried 3031 but the burn rate looks in the ballpark...
Forum: Gas Checks
I have used the hornady .30 caliber gas checks on .303 Brit, 7.7 Japanese and both flavors of 7.62 Russian with no problems whatsoever. I have also “beagled” plenty of different.308 molds out to...
Forum: Cast Boolits
I almost preferred the standard 30/40 to the AI. The longer neck worked better especially with gas checked bullets and the powder capacity was not a limiting factor considering the velocity we keep...

Hi guys, I know this is an old thread but 100 year old cartridges don’t change much so here’s what I have and also would like to hear more data from others out there...

I shoot an AK and a mini 30 in 7.62x39 and tried some of the Harris loads a decade ago and didn’t get much luck, with the cast spitzer (160gr?) with 2400 it wouldn’t cycle the action on either rifle....

I do occasionally load up a few gas check bullets naked. I keep the velocity low, like barely supersonic. 5-6grs Bullseye or 8grs Unique. I use to load up a lot of those “gallery” type loads for...
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
My shank and gas check are a good enough fit that I line a couple dozen gas checks up on the bench and snap the bullets on them. They are tight enough that I tumble lube after they are fitted and...

If I could only have one powder for the rest of my life, without a doubt it would be Unique. You can load anything from light .38 special wadcutters to bottleneck rifle cartridges to .45/70

My experience with Enfields... I use the same mold as the original post was questioning with good results, even tho my rifles have fairly rough bores.
I “beagled” that mold out now it throws...

I want to neck size my brass, but the drawings of this die look like it has a shoulder inside. Anyone try this die?

I built a 300BO not for short barrel or subsonic nonsense as most do, but specifically to shoot cast through an AR. That cartridge operates at very cast bullet friendly velocities. Although I...
I like W231 in pistols, but my main use for Unique is reduced loads in rifles, 10 grains at a time. To my knowledge you cannot do reduced rifle loads with anything but Bullseye, Unique, or 2400.
I use it too. As mentioned it’s kind of fluffy and staticky and likes to go all over the place.
Let’s see, my notes say...
