I found in GRT that when I created the 458x2 cartridge, I did not adjust the H20 capacity correctly. Thanks to Sgt H and Larry calling me out, I found the mistake and corrected it. My brass held...
I think you and Larry are correct and I have overcharged these loads. I will start with lowest loads and record the speeds and watch for pressure signs. Thanks for the help, as a new reloader it is...
Once I have the subs to my liking, I will try to find loads for supers, probably with vv110 or imr4227 or the like. With the 9" of barrel, I think I could get above 1,800 fps with 405g and maybe...
We will see... one thing I should mention is that I only have 9" of barrel.
Hi everyone,
I just loaded up some Woodleigh 405 flat-nose into cut-off 300wm brass to keep the 458x2 fed. My goal is to find subsonic loads from N320 and Red Dot. I haven't shot any yet, but I...

Yes 308 mags. I mean, I can use mine how it is. The majority of time I have no issues. But probably once in every 2 mags it jams. Maybe the recoil shuffles the rounds in the mag...not sure.

Should the ramp be ground down?

Yes, the AI steel mag works the best of all so far. But it still nose dives, especially when cycling quickly.
I read some put a 10 rnd spring into a 5 rnd mag and it is supposed to help. I will...

I haven't been able to get my 458x2 to feed reliably.
What I have tried so far:
1. Different brands of mags. Steel mags with a flat spring works better than PMAG, but still unreliable.

Took 14 months to get stamps and couple more to get built, but here they are.

Bringing this thread back to life to ask how the 450 Marlin dies are working out for you.
@Tatume: I have read Mathews' book but must have missed that part. I haven't read thru all the letters yet, so perhaps it's in there. Good read, thank you.
If I start seeing the 458 SOCOM more around here maybe I'd build one... On an AR though

Indeed I am and thank you for giving me food for thought. I guess I was hoping for some slow-motion descriptions of what is occurring internally and how different powders can be used to control the...

Thanks for all the feedback.
It seems like taper crimp for all brass that headspaces off the mouth, or in order to limit brass wear. Roll crimp when a strong crimp is needed and the mouth is not...
I once shot a shoat and it flipped backwards... does that count?
Pacomdiver: I did look into the 458 socom and it does interest me, however if the round doesn't take off how would I get more...

Good advise. I have an integrally suppressed 300 blk on an AR. I have used a twist on for a 6.5 CM for predator hunting and it has been great... but it throws the balance off and the length is...
