Wondering if you guys adjust your custom mold sizes if you are using it exclusively for powdercoating, since it adds 1-2 thousandths?

I've had a similar problem with certain boolits and autos, a good reason not to double coat. And a good reason not to load 100%+. And to use a good strong taper crimp to prevent setback.

Without a doubt, my best coverage color is Eastwood Hotcoat Powder Gray # 16248.

It seems to "flow" and cover any bare or thin spots. Perfect coverage every time.

A follow-up of this old thread,
I now have 2 9mm AR's: A Sig MPX and a homebrewed CMMG. Both eat my powdercoated Lee 356-124's just fine:

Bullet length matters. Your COL will be the same no matter what if you don't adjust the seating die. The longer the bullet (at same COL) the less case capacity. So I look for data on jacketed bullets...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Wouldn't a shorter seating depth rectify that? Unless your bullet is maximum length and barely fits as it is, just seat a little deeper.
I emailed NOE asking if they are going to make any...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Thanks, looks like that NOE bullet is a 152 grain now. With powder coat and gas check its probably closer to 160?
BTW the AR-10 I want to use this in has an adjustable gas block, so I can dial it...
Forum: Cast Boolits
So I searched for "AR-10" with zero hits. I'm building one AR-10 and buying another. I've done a decent amount of handgun boolit casting but no rifles yet (not counting my PCC's).
So what's a...

I bought a 9mm, 40/10mm, and a 50 from Dave and Kim. They are very nice and helpful. Using the dies takes a little learning, like with casting. The dies need a little lubricant, like WD40 or case...

What is everyone using to cut the flashing down to size? Hoping for something more compact than a paper cutter. Tinsnips don't cut very straight and clean.
Forum: CB Loads / Military Rifles
Yeah, this has me re-thinking bullet design in my AR-10mm. I'm thinking truncated cone shape would work better than round. I have almost zero margin for error in terms of min OAL with my current 40...
Forum: Gas Checks
As mentioned in another thread on seating gas checks, I started seating and crimping powdercoated bullets in two steps, as this person shows in his video. 99.9% success rate.

Forum: Gas Checks
Some gas checks go on nice and easy in a one step sizing die. BUT some do not, especially with powder coated bullets that add some flashing to the base. I have a 40 bullet with a .379 base (using 41...

Upon further review, I do believe I've had some curing issues, possibly related to contamination. Still not a fan of 358 molds dropping in the 36X's, but I think I have resolved the curing problems...
Forum: Coatings and Alternatives
I don't know what it is with Lee molds and 38 caliber, but this is the second one that drops like .360. :???: Obviously any powdercoat is going to be taken off with a 358 die. And it's brand new, so...

I know I'm going to get a lot of "slug the barrel" answers, but I have numerous 38 and 357 guns, and I am also handloading for friends.
Curious if people size before or after powder coating. I've...

Interesting. I don't have a sprayer, just a shake and bake guy. I tried it sprinkling by hand, but it doesn't work so well. I might try no stick foil.

I definitely prefer the silicone sheets. They lay nice and flat, and the powder adheres to the bottom of the bullets better than with parchment. Parchment paper also browns eventually and becomes...

OK, so I had some Eastwood colors sitting around I hadn't tried and had some good (and not so good) results. All shake and bake method, ambient temp, just powder and bullets in a yogurt container....

I lubed and sized since back in the 90's. I tried powder coating recently, because it's supposed "cleaner." That might be true once it's in the gun, but nobody seems to talk about what an absolute...
