Bought Sharpe's book, "Complete Guide to Handloading", years ago. It is the third edition (originally published in 1937). Most concepts are still good, but equipment/supplies have changed.

Best --- early 1950's Marlin 336 in .30-30.
More interesting --- Savage 99, .30-30, B&L 4x scope.
Under appreciated --- Marlin 56, more accurate than my Marlin 39, but trigger could be better.

I've used the older Weaver 1.5-4.5x, Leupold 2-7x, Weaver K2.5, K4, Redfield 2.75, etc. and agree with those who recommend a low powered variable, as a 2-7x. the Leupold 2.5-8x is my favorite...
