You guys are awesome. Thanks for continuing to share your efforts. I really enjoy seeing the progress and learning from everyone.
I'll get back to it at some point! I've been busy troubleshooting...

DB, I like your measure of powder efficiency. It makes sense to use if you're looking to find the optimal powder and charge for a specific gun/ball/patch.
I have been wondering while watching the...

What's the ignition temp of this golden powder? Would it be useable in a flintlock? That's one of the downsides for some subs is that they don't work in a flinter without a real BP portion to ignite...

From what I could find, golden powder has a slightly higher energy content than BP per grain weight and reduced fouling.
The downside is that it is hygroscopic.

The way I'd grinded and screened with my ceramic burr grinder:
Use side cutters to break picks into pieces that would fit in grinder
Grind on Largest setting into screen. Screen it. What stays on...

I wonder about any additives to TP that might affect the BP made with it. Tissues sometimes have aloe or other stuff on them. I'm not sure if some TP is the same, but I'd expect there's potentially...

Hey guys, I come to check in on you cause I've been busy with hunting and general life and wondered how the progress is going.
And I see you're playing around with TP!!!
I need to keep a...
Forum: Cast Boolits
I cast my first balls last night! How do they look? A couple of them may look a little wrinkly, but I'm not sure where they were at in the session, because I didn't throw any back in the pot when I...

Thanks! Do you heat your mold on a hot plate or just manage it with the melting pot and casting rate?
Forum: Cast Boolits
Thanks! I want to cast small as possible because my barrel is a deep round groove, so I need to use thick patches to fill the grooves. Using Hornady .570 swaged balls , some are horrifically hard to...

A friend just gifted me a Lyman .570 round ball mold. I have a Lee magnum melter and some soft lead on the way. I've got a Lyman lead ladle. I've also got a k type thermocouple for my multimeter that...

Absolutely! I have a 45-90 and a pile of processed WW lead. I just don't have a bullet mold yet but so have a round ball mold and am having more fun shooting my flinter.

I would like to keep the as cast diameter as small as possible due to the design of my bore. I need to use thick patches to get into the grooves but that makes.it a bit too tight if the ball is much...

Thanks for the advices! I'll look around for the best magnum melter deal :)

Just got a Lyman single cavity .570 round ball mold. I have the Lyman ladle. I have a thermometer that will work. I am thinking either the Lee melting pot, Lee magnum melter, or a 10lb cast iron...

I have looked into the yttria stabilized zirconia media. Non sparking, won't break and spark like the alumina ceramic is capable of doing, and it is much more dense.
However... Probably too...

I had wondered myself if the creosote from a chimney would be a good additive to liven up some slower charcoal

Having more moisture in the meal when pressing will allow more density with less pressure. Too much though and you'll lose some kno3 squeezing water out of the meal

I'm excited to see the shooting results of that southern red cedar powder that Brimstone had the fantastic assay numbers from!

Thanks for that helpful information, doublebuck and hamgunner. I'll have to look into that violet flame but. I found Waltham Abbeys book on Amazon. Is it this one?
I would think it would be...

I have been trying to figure out how to put together my charcoal retort to be the next best after a kiln like Almar's with minimal cost.
I have a quart can, gallon can, and 2 gallon pot with lid....

Where do you get that 10% rule? Most people go with 50-58 cal balls, if they use balls, regardless of mill size

DB, that is a cow hide. My wife got that for me a few years ago. I don't know where it came from or what type of cow, but i thought using as the background would make my gun look a little better!
