I would not use the exact same spot on your berm- well not if you are a really accurate shooter anyhow. It can create a “hot spot” where you have high velocity lead hitting solid lead, when you want...

I answered in your other thread- try mixing it back in via clean motor oil and stirring....gotta figure out the right temp where it will go back into solution. At least that is what helped me in a...

Try some clean motor oil, the carbon helps separated alloys remix better. Worked for me with some high tin alloys that were separating out....that and a lot of stirring.
I found the idea here...

We get lots of larger fishing weights here at garage sales and such. Some I melt down and some I keep for future fishing use myself. I cast the sizes I regularly use but it is nice to get some of...

Have a SAECO hardness tester, already proved its value a year or two ago when I got a couple different batches of lead but was unsure of the source. Suspected wheel weights and pure, and it showed...

Well, I had a rough time with the unknown babbit stuff. Basically a bunch of random home poured, kind of dirty ingots. Well when I tried to melt them all together a bunch of the tin separated out. ...

Lot of different lead based and tin based babbitt alloys:

And am all done smelting WW’s, ended up with maybe 50 lb of COWW as well so smelted them as well.
Went thru all the “babbitt” marked pigs and broken large ingots, nothing to indicate composition...

And some photos of the organ pipe score as well.
The mottled appearing pipes are supposedly 50/50, the more lead looking one are supposedly usually 70/30. The zinc pipes have small speckles,...

Finally figured out the issue. Photos were too big....
Anyhow- looks like monotype to my un-educated eye.
But I do have some other stuff that I have had a while, very small font single...

Excellent! And thanks for the info, I knew someone here would have an idea.
Funny- I used to design sawmill equipment with a small Mfr for a while, and I didn’t even think about that being a...

Good suggestion- I am aware of BNE’s XRF service and may very well make use of it once I get all my stuff sorted out better and organized into a more manageable situation. Like I probably need to...

I am a glutton for punishment. Today looks nice enough to get started on smelting the WW. Currently have my kid picking up some solder and organ pipe pieces from a scrap place, but a lot of the...

More pics of the stuff in question. The idea I had was wrong. Basically there is a bunch of sprues, they feel a little lighter comparatively than these other pieces, I will need to check that they...

More pictures of the monotype (foundry type?). Anyone venture an educated guess on which they seem to be?

Picked up a pile of lead and related stuff, some old caster gone to the great reward apparently. Second hand to me so no real story there.
I am having trouble figuring out what some of it is-...
Forum: Cast Boolits
I cast for maybe 2 hrs or so using double cavity molds. Seems like I go thru about 20 lbs or more, so maybe up to 1000 bullets at a time. Tend to switch calibers as I get a pile of one size built...

Tried to upload some photos of this thing but no luck for some reason.
Anyhow- I don't mind lead projectiles in my berm, or even fragments, but the fine particle cloud of lead dust coming out of...

And now an opportunity to add another 200 lbs of lino and foundry type to the pile......hmmm.

Have an old bullet trap I found on craigslist, it had a sticker on it saying it was rated for handgun use only, but there was no manufacturer info anywhere. The trap weighs about a hundred lbs...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Probably. Around 500 lbs linotype, few hundred lbs of coww, and maybe 200 lbs or less of pure. Need more pure lead obviously. Had to buy the lino since it was $1 a lb and still in type form,...

Craigslist.
I have decided to start casting again after dabbling a little many years ago, so this year I have been stocking up on lead. When I started fishing again ten years ago I used up my...

New account as my old one never got activated correctly, and was unable to get anyone to fix it. Hoping to be able to post now, buy stuff, etc!
