^^THSI^^ You guys know that bullet wts are set by the mold manf with specific alloys, often Lyman #2.So anything else plus casting temp, will affect final bullet wts.

Yeah bummer. Price of my magma just went up, or down of it breaks.
Forum: Cast Boolits
This may be true for older manf guns but modern 9mm will be pretty much on. My oem glocks shoot 0.356” fine but i size to 0.357” just in case.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Likely the bullet drops fatter. So likely looking at 0.360+. While you can easily size down to 0.357, a better fit imo, more force than needed.

If I bother testing at all, its usually about 2 weeks after casting.

Well I woudn't worry, just pull all the ammo down. Something obviously caused the corrosion. Toss the powder & clean up the bullets, keep the cases, probably deprime them too. WHy we never shoot...

Its likely not zinc if it melted @ less than 700deg. More likely just crud from other contaminates. Try aggressive fluxing, skim & toss the dross. Yes the zinc wts will float up.

I tend not to cast a large amount of bullets I am not sure I will need. So while I have melted small quantities of bullets I no longer need, it is far from enough to keep me shooting something else.

FOr my handgun bullets I rarely test bhn. I also weigh samples of my bullets to get a rough idea of hardness. It works fine unless I am trying to achieve something very specific.

Almost all catastrophic events due to reloading come from distraction. I try to never have anyone talking to me, no tv, radio is ok. Pay attention, dont reload when tired, no booze is obvious but...

An adequate flare & separate crimping & seating should solve the problem of lead shaving. A expander like the Lyman M or sim is helpful.

It would be like a stubby wadcutter, accurate in close but unstable as distance increases.

You have no data for 400gr bullets. Its always been safe to use heavier bullet data for lighter bullets. There is almost zero chance your final bullet weight matches the mold exactly. Being off 5gr...

Anything is possible but in 400K rds loaded over 45 years, the only bad primers I have had were Wolf spp. About 10% failure rate. Either no compound or no anvil. I have never had a Win, CCi, Rem or...

The reason I doubt the rifle is it is an intermittent problem. if it were the rifle, it would be almost always.

Of it fires the 2nd time, its your reloading technique.

With solids, I dont think the 300gr+ give you much more over a good 240-250gr. A cast bullet too hard can shatter on impact with bone. If making my own, I am fine with something in the 18-22bhn range...

Depends on the powder & cartridge. 1/10gr with slow powders in big cases isnt moving the needle much. With fast powders in small case, yes 1/10gr makes safety sense. While 1/2gr diff in magnums with...

BUllets are not plug & play regardless of type. Even in identical weights, bearing surfaces & matl are diff. I have always found i need more powder with an identical weight jacketed v lead of sim...

I have traded soft lead for alloy. I like the rcbs/lyman type molds. The ingots stack perfectly in uspo sfr boxes, which can be put into medium frb for 60# max rate. At $1/#, you would sell it all....

Why would anyone drop ingots into water? At most i have set the mold on a wet rag to cool faster but dropping into water, other than handling, adds nothing.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
The composition of ww & range scrap vary quite a bit but aged alloy, pretty close to what i get; 10-11 for outdoor range scrap & 15-16 for clip ww.

Bought a case last yeR when they became available. They work great in my unmodified striker fired guns, over 1500 ds.
