I load a 525 grain postell bullet over 23.0 gr AA5744. It chronos at around 1129 fps and is pretty pleasant to shoot. I shoot 40-50 rounds in the coarse of a match. Accuracy is pretty good as well.

First thing I'm going to do with the new barrel is run the bore scope down and have a look. I'll post a pic of the new barrel for comparison. It's really amazing how much the bore scope magnifies the...

Thanks, but I have a new barrel already on the way from Lyman.
Forum: Muzzleloading.
I tried a long list of online stores (including the ones mentioned above) and nobody had a lefty GPR barrel in stock. So I contacted Lyman and they too had no .54 barrels but they were able to find...

Sounds like fun, but I put way too much effort into refinishing the stock to risk blowing it up! Might even loose my range privileges if someone saw what I was up to....[smilie=1:

Yeah, I bought it new from Sportsman's Warehouse back 11 years ago. I looked at Optics Planet, but they are only taking back-orders now. Lyman doesn't have a direct replacement available in inventory...

I purchased this barrel around 2010 so it's not part of the more recent breech plug recall. Yeah, there's no way of knowing how deep the crack goes but there's no external hint of the crack. I've...

Maybe, but barrel staples and attachments would have to relocated. I'm looking for a replacement that I can just brown and drop in.

Ha ha. After this I will be carefully scoping ALL my barrels periodically. I wish I had scoped this barrel 10 years ago when new. I have no idea when this crack started or how fast it's progressing....

The crack runs roughly perpendicular to the rifling (bright diagonal lines). It's a little hard to distinguish the lands from grooves b/c the circular mirror is so small. I wrote Lyman today to see...

Felt my Lyman barrel was fouling up to easily and decided to give it a thorough cleaning including a scotchbrite polish job I read about this forum. Well after cleaning I decided to run the ol' bore...

I buy the expensive $3/lb lead from Rotometals and cast .530 RB's with a Lee mold for about $0.10 a piece. Smaller calibers are much more economical. Lee molds are great for RB's, but at the moment...

I cast a lot these days and was concerned enough about my casual handling and exposure to get tested. I handle a lot of lead with bare hands, brush out my pot occasionally and other risky stuff....

That shows some class Cactus! I've seen too many videos where some idiot hands his girlfriend a full-house 460 S&W revolver and records the unfortunate ending. Nothing could be worse for our sport....

Only a few smokeless powders are recommended for the 10ML-II and they all require a sabot to get a tight seal. As you have already discovered conicals work fine with holy black or pyrodex. BH209 is...

One of my pet loads for a Lyman 1878:
Starline brass, CCI 200 primer, Lyman #457124 385 gr RN, COL 2.540", 25.3 gr AA5744 powder, chrono {1288 fps, max spread=30fps, std dev=10fps} 5-shot group=1.5"...

I bought a new one years 10 years ago. I really liked it but had trouble finding an accurate, soft shooting load for it. I tried Unique but had vertical stringing. Then I noticed every load had...

Congrats on the Sharps and I wish you the speediest recovery on the health front. Sucks getting old, but sure beats the alternative! I'm picking up my 1st Pedersoli rifle today. I'm sure I will be...

I have 200 cases coming tomorrow. I'll let you what what I think after measuring, prep, and loading. Mines going to feed an M1A, so FMJ's only for this one. I almost regret buying them already. I...

I dry fire mine routinely wihout any issues. I might be wrong, but I figured lever action rifles are designed to be "fired until empty". I can't count anyways, so I just keep firing until I hear...

You got me there! I have the 300 gr Lee mold with GC, but I don't have any .45 GC's, so I shot them w/o and still had terrible accuracy even at 1100 fps. Pressure builds too quick for my '73 to get...

I have a Uberti '73 in 45 Colt that shot exactly like yours...great with jacketed, terrible with cast and I tried a LOT of cast bullet combos. Then I discovered PSB. Lee 452-255-RF with 17 gr IMR4227...

I sometimes fire "squib" loads when measuring groove and bore diameter. I normally use 0.5 gr Unique and a cast bullet. With a good seal around the case mouth, all you hear is the click of the firing...

I agree with this. My groups go from 1.5 to 3 inches at 100 yds. I use BP, so ignition was never a problem. Some powders work better with 209's, so it really depends the powder.

That boolit would be good medicine for Colorado bulls. I just ran out of 460 gr NoEx's. I'm going to have to order a mold from Accurate!
