I have had good results doing this. Best molds are the nose pour like the Hoch, or the Leeth (pioneer products), As these have a flat plate or shelf on base of mould that the check can be...

Back in 96' my custom Axtel Sharps model 77' in .40-21/2" arrived after nearly a years wait. Loaded up Rem. brass (stretched .30-40 from Buffalo Arms) with H4895 and the Ideal .405 Win. bullet cast...

I just loaded my first batch of .320 long. Used Corbin dip-lube..this is a polerized wax ythat dries in about 15-20 min. & is a clear non-sticky film. I use an old artist brush to "paint" it on.

1+ on the old Ideal slight bevel base. This is really more of a very slight chamfer than a real bevel. Makes loading into case mouth easier & I believe makes getting a perfect base when casting...
The 21's Century is top of the line, but my K&M is all solid steel and has has been in constant use since the early 80's...uses Lee shell holders.

More than tradition...I purchased a cast actioned Ballard in .25-25Stevens. I knew I would be using real black for safety. I was worried about using black in such a small bore..but it really isn't...
I had quite a conversation with Rick about building .40 compression dies & selling original Ideal priming chambers. Sent him a letter and $126.00. Confirmed by phone & him agreeing to everything. ...

I am using Wonder Wads..but not in the case... I am breechseating a 30-1 tapered bullet in an original Stevens-Pope barrled Ballard. Since it is an early ballard, I decided to try real Black..Swiss...
Just a thought..before any sizing, I would try unsized bullet for fit in each chamber throat. Throat fit trumps groove dia. for gas cutting prevention & accuracy.
