Sure it can be done...within limits. I think I'd recommend sticking with a plain-base style, or using cheaper aluminum GCs for simplicity instead, however.

Only thing I'd add is that this is likely a big part of your temp fluctuation & resulting size/weight differences right there - once you start, you want to minimize the amount of time...
