Ouch. Burns suck. I feel your pain. Had third degree burns on my left hand about five years ago. Not from casting. Bubbled up and blistered within seconds. Hurts like a ****.

My .40s, 45acp and 44mag cases all made slugs with tapered ends.

Thanks for the feedback. I changed it from "big rule" to "general rule".

Thanks. Forgot to put lube barrel. Edited the OP.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Ive been having some leading issues. Tried all sorts of things to fix it. Lubing, water dropping, crimping, etc...
Well, I learned a valuable lesson today. SLUG YOUR BARREL!!
I was a dumb newb...

The brass is starline. I measured the expander die. It measures at .4275 until you get to the top where it flares.
Forum: Cast Boolits
I must of typed it wrong in the original post.
I started at minimum. 14 to 14.6 in .2gr increments. Max was listed @ 15+ from a few sources. I don't mess with max loads unless accuracy calls for...

Wow. Come back here after work and the thread took off pretty good.
Heres an update after gathering some data from you guys.
I resized some brass, then adjusted the expander die to where is...

Should the lube be visible? I was under the impression that less is more from the 45/45/10 thread. They all felt waxy to the touch. I was going to do an extra coat on the next test rounds.
As far...

That makes sense. I add backing the expander die out a little to my testing.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Yes. Im using the Lee 4 die set. The seating has a built in Taper, but I back the die out. I use the FCD (roll).
Forum: Cast Boolits
I was gonna try that too. Like I said, never had a crimp issue before on commercial. This is a whole new ball game though. Gonna have to go back to the drawing board.
Forum: Cast Boolits
There was some excessive leading also. Ive been shooting 430 size bullets for a while without leading with pretty good accuracy. I have not slugged the barrel yet though. Since it was my first time...
Forum: Cast Boolits
Well I went to the range to test out my newly cast boolits. New to casting, not reloading. Never had this happen before. Ive been loading commercial cast for my S&W 629 44mag since Ive owned it, so...

Sounds like me last weekend. Flames, smells, 20+ pours before getting good bullets and a wife saying, "It stinks in here, are you done yet?".
It was a great time.
Forum: Cast Boolits
I did. I have a hot plate (griddle) that I use for preheating ingots and molds. Im pretty sure the issue was the temperature of the pot. Pretty sure my Lyman thermometer is off.

From what I've read the 45/45/10 should work fine with non-TL moulds. Please correct if I'm wrong before I lube these.

I would call them. I got my 550b plus a lot of other accessories within 10 days.

Umm.. I say buy it all. Pistol Powders are like gold right now. Rifle powder isn't too bad to find but around here in Kansas City finding Pistol Powder is like spotting a "Quadracorn"
Forum: Cast Boolits
Would like to say thanks for that awesome little write up.
Forum: Cast Boolits
Thanks for all the replies. Oh yeah they will be sitting for atleast a week before I shoot them. With 4 kids I have to plan my shooting time in the "family calendar". Probably gonna work on making...

I just tumble. Tumble then sonic clean = super clean brass. But I see it as less prep work the better. I like reloading, just not case prep.
