Since getting addicted to cast bullets and shotgun/pistol powders in my old Marlin 336 30-30 (6 years ago) I haven't shot more than 25 rounds of jacketed bullets. Not being physically able to hunt...
The only difference I have found with my "mid range" loads is that the Federal primer cup is a bit thinner/softer that the Win primer cup.

In 2012 I bought that mold for a buddy that was just getting into casting (I never personally became a caster), and only started reloading (late in life) just a year or so earlier when the obama...

I'm an old land surveyor, April of 2023 will mark 40 years in "private practice". In that length of time a person can collect a whole lot of stuff. I've got 8-10 old tripods stacked back in a cabinet...

Thanks for the tip. AA#9 is my go-to favorite in .357mag and .44mag so I always have a good supply. The other AA "pistol powders", #2, #5 and #7 are also kept in good supply. I didn't get into the...
I've shot quite a few 150-170 gr cast boolits in 30-30win using AA#7, but never considered trying AA#9 in the 30-30 .... I wouldn't even know where to start. I started re-loading a bit late in life...

why not try a 4-5:1 ratio of mineral spirits and LLA? It makes a nice fast drying cast bullet lube, and twice around the block just make it better. I'd bet that a single tumble in that mix would work...
I guess I am for sure getting old. This thread reminds me of the old game of "pass it down" from 60 years ago when us kids were all herded out to the bus shed to play games on rainy days.
Wasn't...

you mentioned nickel plated brass.... I have my own opinions about nickel plated brass, but as a "rookie" it may be best to leave it alone .... I'll bet there are some more experienced folks here...

The LEE Carbide Factory Crimp Die has the "ring" .... the LEE Factory Crimp Die is a collet style (stab crimp) .... BIG difference. Once the naysayers that trash the FCD understand the difference,...
unfortunately there is the confusing use of the title "LEE Factory Crimp Die". It looks like (to me - still a rookie) that the same title/name is used for two completely different styles od crimp...
I would give those bullets a tumble in LLA/mineral spirits (maybe two) before using them ... especially sized at only .357
just my opinion

I don't cast my own, but I do shoot about 95% cast boolits that I buy commercially or have a buddy that trades me some of his casts. I do buy 1200-1500 commercial cast/pre-groove lubed a year, but...

when the wad peels off the slug early in flight, does that have any detectable affect on the trajectory of the slug?
