I have a second model 73 Winchester made in 1880. It has a set trigger.

What Arnie said.
With PP bullets I push a dry patch through behind my bore pig for every shot.
With grease grooved bullets I use a damp patch after every shot and also wipe my chamber if necessary...

Around here it seems like there are small primers available at most places that sell components. This got me thinking. I took some spent large rifle primers and popped the anvil out. I used a punch...

Beautiful group Ian! I’m starting to believe the 16 twist is the way to go. Also, a 200 yard group like this is testimony to the shooters skill! Nice shooting!

Brian,
The numbers are correct. I double checked this morning. However, lately I’ve been experimenting with a .376 push through sizer. Early indications are that sized bullets may show a slight...

Brian,
.368 bore/.375 groove
.371 bullet patched to .378
I’ve been all over the place with alloy. Currently using 20:1 with BP loads. I may try softer.
For smokeless loads I’ve had good success...

This is the same problem I had with a DD bullet from a mold I had made for my 38-55. The problem may have stemmed from my bore/groove measurements being off a bit. This same bullet shoots very well...

From your description, my guess is you’re bulging the case.
In a new, full length sized, Starline case, 70 grains would require a good deal of compression to seat the 500 grain bullet deep enough....

The grain direction through the wrist would bother me more than the finish!

In your opening post you mentioned having shot some smokeless loads with jacketed bullets. Is is possible that it might be these cases? I ask because I’ve not needed to resize any of my BP cases. ...

Kurt,
I did shoot at Merrill. Won the traditional(iron sight) class with the Miroku low wall I told you about.
It would be interesting to see those tools. My rifle is an original High Wall with a...

Thanks for the encouragement, guys! I’ll pick out a mold and give it a shot. Not my first rodeo so I’m aware of the necessity of bullet length and fit.
I don’t know why I couldn’t get that DD...

Is there any reason it wouldn’t work as well as in the bigger bores?
I’ve tried a DD bullet but didn’t have much luck. Accuracy was mediocre. Groove sized PP and GG bullets have given me good...

During my high power days we used to say that Dave Tubbs could win the Nationals with a 303 British. That’s a stretch of course but the point is, it’s the shooter as much or more than the rifle. I...

Thanks Kenny,
I’ve heard good things about this bullet from others as well. I’ll try to find this mold or maybe order some bullets to try.
I’ve had decent results with an Accurate 305 grain bullet...

I’m getting the itch for a new mold for my 38-55 High Wall. It has a 14 twist liner. .368” bore and .385 groove. How long/heavy can I go? Any recommendations?

I did same as you with a Hi Wall. It’s a fairly light rifle with a #3 barrel. I won a Treebone gift certificate at a match. Didn’t take me long to decide how to use it!

I have a C Sharps with a GM barrel that shoots very well. However I’ve only shot PP in it. The bore is just slightly larger than my Shiloh. I need to use a thinner patch with the same bullet in the...

I don’t use one but it looks like it should work to cut the strips at least. This could be a time saver. However, I don’t see how you could use it with the precision necessary to cut the angles.

I love Sharps rifles, don’t get me wrong. But, knowing what I now know about BPCR long range competition, if I were to build a rifle just for long range, it would be a High Wall.
