SSS, are you shooting pure lead or an alloy? I think I'm going to need a .453 sizer. Not familiar with these new Lee sizers but may have to give one a try.

I can remember buying surplus H4831 for $0.79 per pound at a drugstore in Idaho Falls. You scooped out whatever you wanted and put it in a brown paper bag. Worked great for scoop loading '06...

I have a .45 caliber CVA Accura MR-X. Would like to be able to determine bore dimensions because I already know it's funky. My calipers are ***** and I can't measure groove marks with my...

I advise you to buy the Metrics Unlimited plug and forget the .25 ACP plug. Using pistol casings is a real PIA and provides zero advantage.

Tell him to check pricing on bulk (metallic reloading - pistol bullets) bullets at Graf & Sons. They also have good prices for Harvester sabots. It's one heckuva lot cheaper to buy bullets by the...

I don't know if it's funny or not. ;) Am I misreading or is it just a bit confusing? Or are you?

Ron, when you quote bore dimensions are referring to groove to groove or land to land measure. I'm inclined to think you are measuring groove to groove based upon your comments about fit.

cwskirmisher, I can't answer your question as I've never shot those same bullets minus the check. I don't bother with the gas checks for my my own home brew as the accuracy and performance I get is...

Dan, I honestly don't recall the 550 grainers but notice in the top pics I posted - the green Remington target - shows results with some 620 grain gas checked bullets you made and sent me. Those...

newton, to more directly answer your question - I found the gas checked bullets to be a skosh more difficult to start correctly than those without the check. The precision of the sizing is critical...

Carl, I can't answer you about the groove difference. As to Rattus' poetry, there probably is no good answer. Come on Rattus, credit to where it's due, Mose turned us on to this gas check thing...

My concern about doing this is the amount of hard carbon deposit one might get in the flame path with a sidelock. Easy enough to clean out of a breech plug but might be a nightmare in a sidelock. ...

I think the great thing about Ron's method is he is showing proof of a way to get an inexpensive mold dropping bullets that, with only slight effort, shoot quite accurately from barrels in which the...

I don't think it is worth the effort of trying as it almost a sure fail. Blackhorn requires a full strength 209 primer directed directly into powder for sure ignition. It also requires the load to...

I use WD40 as part of my cleaning process and have for years. No issues whatsoever unless you get it on primers or scope lenses. I also let the WD drip out, blow what I can out with pressurized...

I believe that mold is actually my original design (not that I care). Combine that with a sizing die honed to match your bore...

I can suggest better bullets but perhaps not a readily available mold. Anything beyond the standard muzzleloader fodder of mini, maxi, or round ball is probably going to have to be custom unless...
Forum: Muzzleloading.
It's a tapered mold though Ron. If it is like every other Maxi-ball mold it will be a hair under bore at the base and increase to something like .507 at the top band. It will shoot but don't try to...

Didn't I read long ago that a Cream of Wheat buffer would clean lead out of a barrel?? Have never tried it myself but can't see any harm in trying. You could always eat the rest of the package. :)
