I've done several forcing cones at 11 degrees for cast bullets. Without exception every one shot 100% better after reaming. In the case of one S&W .44 spl. results were amazing. It does not matter...

Most accurate has been a 340 gr. LBT WLN in a open sighted Freedom Arms .45 Colt cylinder; backed by 18.5 gr. 2400. Hits a 12"x12" plate at 250 yards all day long.
Thanks guys. I knew I could get an intelligent response on this forum. Lyman 49th heh? Looks like I will have to grab a copy. GaabyM, from your comments it seems it may be a worth the effort to dive...
Just got an Alaskan in the .375 Ruger, and wanting to know about some results with it The neck is fairly short, so overall length will be important. Any one have any input here? I will ultimately...

I use a LBT mould that casts a 180 grain gas checked bullet. I've used a few different moulds, but the heavy LBT is the only one that shoots well at all velocities. My favorite load is 16.0 grains...

Go with the .375 Win. then you can easily use both cast and common jacketed bullets and have the best of both worlds.

I doubt anyone glues them back in personaly. Most would rather get rid of them. I take them out, and drill a hole there and screw in a sling swivel stud. Thats the only hokey thing on Marlins is...

Another way to remove lead spots is with a pencil lead. It will not damage the mould, and the graphite from the lead will keep further material from building up. I color the underside of the sprue...

Good for you! You will love it all. I shoot most all cast bullets these days. maybe 20,000 a year. No way could I afford to shoot store bought jacketed stuff. Just got back from the gun room, lube...

Try about 25-30 grains of accurate arms 5744 with that heavy bullet. Mild and enjoyable to shoot. For a hotter load I use 45 grs. 2495 behind my 475 Gr. WFN plain base. About 1,500 FPS.

Make sure you have a copy of the Lyman cast bullet loading manual. Lot's of good info. Good shootin!

For best results, your bullet should be bore dia. or .001 bigger. Too small a bullet may cause blow by and leading. Either way, your gunna love that .45-70. I've had a couple dozen and will never be...

Congratulations 'jschance'. That is my caliber, bullet, and powder combo as well. Accurate at long range, and hit's hard! Have lot's of different firearms, but the little Marlin carbine is quickly...

Wanting to build a High Wall rifle, along the lines of Ballards 'African Express' High wall. it will be used for shooting cast bullets only, and will order a custom mould for this rifle, so bullet...

Put a straight 2.5 power Leupold on a Marlin .45-70 about 30 years ago. Have since used Leupolds 1.5-5, and 1-4s, but have gone back to the 2.5. It's all the power you will ever need, and you never...
I'm shooting a 180 gr LBT FN GC in my Marlin backed by 16 gr, "lil gun. Have not chrono'd the load, but it will hit a beer can at 300 yards if I hold my tongue just right.
Sorry; I have 2 Lyman Manuals, and neither one even lists that bullet. Sure you have the right number? What weight is it? I would just use the loads listed for another bullet of the same weight....
This may be a good time to say that one gun may like a load, and another may hate the same load. This has been the case with my Ruger GP100 as opposed to my Colt King Cobra. Where one will drive...
Well, did some experimenting, and settled on 16 gr. 'Lil gun behind my 180 gr. LBT WFN GC hard cast bullet, sparked with Federal magnum primers. Is an absolute tack driver out to 200 yards in my...
Heh guys, have been using 2400 in handguns for years with good results; however tried some 'Lil gun in my .45 Colts with better results. I'm using a 180 gr. LBT bullet in my 6" Ruger GP100 and 2...
I think that is a .44 caliber bullet. Won't work all that well in my .357, but thanks.

Have tried most weights from 300 grains, to 540 grain in the .45-70s. Have settled on a LBT style 475 grain bullet, with a meplat dia. of .382, from Mountain Moulds. It seems to hit harder than...
