Thanks Jedman,
I have some .303 Savage cases that I may try if the other cases don't work.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
What I measure on the casting is;
base dia. - .440
rim dia. - .504
case length- 2.330
throat dia. - .323
bullet dia. - .318
I ordered 20 cases from Buffaloarms. I'll wait on the dies....

I think I have it narrowed down to a 8x58 Sauer. Dimensions are real close. Now the hunt for brass, bullets and dies.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
I screwed up the other post so I thought I would start a new one with the correct chamber size and hopefully pictures. I could make a lot of excuses for posting the wrong caliber, but I'm not.
This...

Yes, .318 would be right for the bore.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
The rim dimension on my barrel is .517. I'm not following. I understand the lengthening. How would that reduce the neck down to 7.8mm? I have no idea what dies to get for it.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
I just picked up a German O/U Cape gun in 16 ga. and what is marked on the rifle barrel as a 7.8/78mm. I did a chamber cast and it is a 78mm long slender, tapered cartridge. I cannot find out much...
Forum: Coatings and Alternatives
I've never played with powder coated bullets before. Has anyone tried them in a cap & ball percussion pistol or loaded in a black powder cartridge?
Forum: Coatings and Alternatives
I have never used PC bullets before. Cast in pure lead and PC, will they still bump up to fill the grooves in oversize bores? We are talking in muzzleloaders with black powder in questionable bores.
Forum: Gunsmithing Tips & Tricks
I know stupid question. When I make a casting of the chamber I lube it not to stick. Do I start out with a clean chamber for removal?
Forum: Gunsmithing Tips & Tricks
Thanks Gents for all of the ideas. I have Cerrosafe so I'll give that a go first. After looking at the spring hook tool, gotta have one of them.
Forum: Gunsmithing Tips & Tricks
I picked up a 1884 SRC trapdoor recently. Checking out the chamber, it seems to have a case stuck about 1/2 in. I can scratch it with a metal pick. Any tricks to get it out or is it gunsmith time?

The caliber is 10.15x61R Jarman. Parent case I have no idea. Buffaloarms had the ammo and brass.
Forum: Reloading Equipment
Can you reload 8x57 JRS with 8x57 Mauser dies? I know the shellholder will be different.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
Well Gents, I acquired some cases from Buffaloarms and some .403 cast bullets and loaded 4 rds. with 70grs. of some Goex Cartridge I had laying around. I'll get pictures next time of the group. I...

I finally got around to getting a chamber casting. I and several others all came up with 10.15x61R Jarmann. Has anyone had any experience with this chambering? I've got cases headed this way.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
I have shortened the .50-70 to .50-45 and have shot them with no trouble in my Navy rolling block carbine.
Forum: Case Forming / Re-forming
Yep, it caught my eye! Breech block rotates back and then down. Similar to a Peabody or Martini.

I thought it was pretty nice when I saw it. I am amazed at old world craftmanship. That is the only thing I could come up with. I see no reason for me to disassemble it. With dual extractors it is...

Thanks for the link Mr. Hanssen. Do you know the purpose of the small lever under the opening lever? I just couldn't resist the quality of it. I would love to see a fancier one. I'll try to fireform...

What I was told it is a Hans Larsen/Joh. S. Guidim, Tennstempel model. I was intrigued with the design and craftmanship.
