I wouldn't go that far at all, but thanks. A lot of my information comes right from Outpost, John Kort and many others in the 44-40 community.
Added you to the list!
Here is a list of 44 cal bullet molds by Accurate Molds....of course, you can see them on Accurate's website but I am trying to add the name of the person who designed what...
It shouldn't, but some do anyway.
John Kort designed the 43-215C after the Lyman 427098/42798 (of which the 42798 is a descendent of the 1880's Ideal handloading tool mold), but using a large lube...

Ah, I think I understand now, "40-38" meaning a "40 cal but not 38 cal" rather than "40 cal" and "38gr" of black powder.
Forum: Vintage Ammo
Because, for this explanation, the number after the dash was introduced by Union Metallic Cartridge Company, by 1894 for Marlin, for the amount of black powder used. Thus Marlin started using the...

Nope, was originally a 40 cal bullet with 40gr of back powder...should have been a 40-40

If the box has a K code, then typically 1940's and loaded with about 16gr of Sharpshooter powder. If it's a 3840 code, then typically 1950's and loaded with about 15gr of ball powder.

I guess it depends on where you are hunting, normal temps, food, bedding, rut, etc.
I only hunted five days this year: Nov 21st, 22nd, 29th, Dec 7th and 24th.
Mostly 28-30 degree mornings and...

IMR-4227 is good stuff when one can find that sweet load.
(do not try this at home, far exceeds W.H.V. Max Pressures)
26gr with the 200gr ACME Magma "Cowboy" (44-40-200 RNF BB) sized .428" gave...

If you decide to use smokeless pressures actually designed for the normal 44-40 cartridge loads (13,000cup), any diameter lead bullet from .424 on up will swedge nicely into the bore...per John...
The Buffalo slaughter in the south began in earnest in 1874 and was over by 1878. In the north the great hunts began in 1880 and were over by 1884.
Since you are shooting smokeless powder, not...

Not for the 44-40. The factory never, that I have ever seen, loaded the 44-40 with wads or low volume bp. Typically, I believe, handloaders with hand tools loaded only 35ish grains since they had...

It can still take a fair amount of game if used correctly. Just leave the mouse farts at home, understand bullet drop and trajectory, adjust accordingly as they did before flat trajectory...so easy...

How much chamber pressure do you think it would produce?

No different than the 44-40 was when I ordered back on Sept 5th (yellow - backorder). My order still showing as processing.

During the 1950's and by 1959, this was Winchester's classification of primers.
I never did complete the list to include all K-Code numbers and shotgun primers.

The call-out "Pistol Primers" doesn't seem to come into play until the 1970's as far as being printed in catalogs. They were always labeled as just numbers on the primer boxes. However, during the...

I think I heard someone once say the the WLP's seated too deep in their Starline cases while the WLR fit well. For me, all my WLR's stick out too far. However, I do use them but only load three at a...

I don't know but this has been the same for me for the past 10 years. I have another 150 cases coming in from Starline, at some point, and I will check again.
