Forum: Hunting with CB's
In .54 cal I'd go with a PRB. I've tried the 300gr REAL bullet in my slow twist rifle and accuracy was poor.
In .50 I'd go with the REAL bullet or TC Maxi-Hunter

Thanks Sharps4590.
Finally found the photo of the doe I took with it this past season

When that stock turned black, I almost freaked out. I had heard that it would turn but was deathly afraid I had ruined it. I ended up doing it twice to get the figure to really show. I do want to...
If you happen to be here at the end of the thread, I can confirm that the Google deal list above is still good. My cans of Kroil arrived today, 7 days after I ordered them. I never got a receipt or...

Yes, a Maple stock, mid-grade on the figure.
It was coated in Aqua Fortis and heated - which turned it black in that photo. Once I knocked the black color down, I stained with the LMF Red Maple...

I am a bit hooked on my BP rifles, and I have a Hawkins cap lock as well. I just have a lot of gun interests. I killed a nice doe this past season with it. I've killed deer 3 in the last 4 years...

I built this Late Lancaster from a TVM kit a couple of years ago and this is what sucked me into the boolit casting world. I started casting for this rifle and then it was that rifle and "oh I have...
Forum: Our Town
I got mine and used part of it to pay off my hunting club dues so no matter what I have a place to fish, hunt and shoot this summer and all next year. The rest is going in the savings account
That google deal is still good! You can get the spray Kroil and the liquid in the cans for less than Midway USA or Amazon
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
No luck on mixing the alloy today. My little hot plate wouldn't get hot enough, it melted the pewter and just a little of the lead. Going to have to find a used Coleman stove or turkey fryer...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I haven't had a chance to get the acid for the acid test. I still have the cupcake in the garage and it does thud when dropped not quite the ring the ones of known alloy have. There are just a...
Forum: Casting Equipment
I was thinking about buying a new mallet after reading the thread and then I remembered that I had bought some heavy leather that I made a Possible bag out of last year, so I took some scrap leather...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Thanks Kevin. The good lead is what you sold me a few weeks ago and I had 3 of these dark gray muffins sitting on the bottom of my big pot. The pot of lead had just reached the complete liquid...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Ok, but where do I get a little Muriatic acid? Not like I need a gallon of the stuff around the house
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
The dark gray one is more of a thud. The one I know is the lead alloyed with pewter has a brighter ring to it
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I've only been casting for about 2 years or so. When I first started out I bought 100lbs of melted COWW that had been melted down for race car lead. They used a valve cover as a mold and filled it...
Forum: Coatings and Alternatives
I started out with the silicone baking sheets, cut one in half to cover 2 trays. Has worked well. Good to know I can clean the residue off and continue using them.

Here's mine. This is also where I build my Flintlock rifles

I'll go take a look online. I'm pretty much set up to load everything on my 650XL except for 308,280,338-06 and 45LC which are all low volume for me. I'm a little interested in the basic 550, the...

I got a Dillon sales mag in the mail yesterday and they normally go straight to the trash without me opening them. For some reason I opened it up and thumbed through it and noticed that the 650XL...
Forum: Cast Boolits
I cleaned up the mold with a lead carpenters pencil this week and sat down this weekend for round 2 with this mold. It went much better with all your good advice. Stopped pressure casting and...
Forum: Cast Boolits
I'm guessing at the alloy but it was COWW originally. It was race car lead that had been melted down from WW. I picked up 150# a few years back. Unless I'm buying it commerically it always seems to...
Forum: Military Rifles
Beautiful old Mauser. Have you taken it out of the stock? I've never seen one marked below the wood but I'd check anyway. You might also look under the buttplate
