Any powder measure with a metal drum in a metal housing is going to work well, last a long time, and won't leak powder.
RCBS, Lyman, Hornady - all work the same and dispense equally well.
Just...

The new model Hornady shellplates work on the old presses.
The only difference between the old and new shellplates is a milled channel under the new shellplate that rides over the ejector nub,...

It's true that original parts are non-existent.
I have resurrected two Pro-Jectors to fully functional, including priming, and if I was on your continent I would take up your offer.
Forum: Cast Boolits
I don't have a Rigby, but I do shoot cast PC in my 416 Ruger.
I have a custom mould that drops 420 grains, I powder coat then size to .417 . Velocity is 2000fps. BHN is 16. I've tested offhand to...
Forum: Cast Boolits
For the OP, it doesn't matter when you size. The difference in hardness between as-cast and weeks old bullets is not detrimental to sizing, so size whenever. Lead is not going to expand by itself...
It's worth what you pay for it. It's not perfect.
A ram prime is totally reliable. Either RCBS or Lee.

I use the 9.3 bullet to paper patch for my .375 H&H .
It's an RCBS mould, I think.
245 grains at 2400 fps.
Forum: Reloading Equipment
That doesn't work if you need to control the amount of shoulder bump on bottleneck cases.
Forum: Reloading Equipment
There are a few ways to look at it.
For a new reloader looking for a first progressive, it's potentially a very expensive paperweight. Some spare parts are still available from RCBS, most aren't,...

To clarify what I mean by flex :
When you raise the empty shellholder to kiss the sizing die at the top of the stroke, then do the same with a case on the shellholder, and you then see a gap...
Forum: Reloading Equipment
I agree and understand that. All metal under tension or compression will flex. So will the piston rods in your engine.
Would you say that a 3 thou flex in a $1000 press is normal ?
Forum: Reloading Equipment
I had a dust-up with some folks on the forum at Accurateshooter.com about this press.
Somebody posted that their Zero press flexes.
I replied that if it flexes, it's rubbish.
Someone -...

Black is the color everyone has problems with.
Red seems to be universally good.
People report good results with a light color.

For bullet casting and shooting purposes, that few thou of surface layer is not what is generally understood as the BHN of the lead.
BHN cannot be added to a lead alloy by quenching it immediately...
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
I specifically mentioned "lead alloy". I did not refer at all to pure lead. Pure lead is not an alloy, an alloy by definition is a mixture of metals.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
Correct, the other elements mixed with the lead are what cause it to be an alloy, and to age harden.
Pure lead can't age harden, it's not an alloy.
Pure lead is not an alloy. It can't be...

Dropping cast lead alloy in water just cools it down faster, and you want to do that because if you keep dropping hot bullets from the mould on top of each other in a bucket with no water, you might...

When you have a large amount of powder, you want it to ignite where it's put.
If a column of powder gets pushed out to the middle of the barrel before complete ignition, I expect life can get...

First prize is to find one that already has the primer slide upgrade, I don't have the APS system on mine, so I can't say how good it is.
I got mine used with the auto-index upgrade as well, but...
Forum: Reloading Equipment
I assumed, maybe wrong, that you are referring to an APS press mounted primer as a RCBS ram priming unit ?
RCBS also makes a simple ram prime, like the Lee.

If you bought it second hand, strip it down and give it a good clean. There should be no oil or grease inside it. A puff of graphite powder is all it needs.

As almost everyone, I started reloading with a Lee press which came with a ram prime.
Which I never used at the time, preferring more 'advanced' tools, starting with a Lee hand prime [ round tray...
