I've pulled the needle & wire-brushed it spotless. The seat is the problem, I'm sure - I mentioned using a 45 bore brush engaging the seat are, aith no joy. I'll pull the needle and take a picture...

Gloves both hands. Leather gloves bought at Costco, seems like I remember 3 pair for $20 - yes, some time ago!

Long time no speak. I have an old SAECO pot that still functions sorta well. I just had an incident that has me stumped. I turned it on (in the workroom), came inside t do whatever, went back out 30...

When I make my alloy, I try to emulate the standard WW+2#Sn, so most of my stuff in 2+%Sn, 4+% Sb, remainder Pb.

Can hardly go from the bottom. There isn't enough room to get serious - I HAVE used an opened-up safety pin, and another wire device, and the way is clear, if one allows 1/32" to be clear.

I've torched it a couple of times, for a period of time, with no result. Well, the first time, I DID get a couple of drops of alloy, but that's all.

I poured the lead out, about a half load. Floor of furnace is totally visible.

And NOT Dancing! I bought a new RCBS furnace about a year ago. Used it some, but finally moved it indoors off the patio when winter hit. And the pour spout clogged up on me. I couldn't clear it, so I...

I have this k98 that has a sporter stock on it. I bought a new military stock from Numrich, and it looks great, but I had no furniture to go with it, so it languished for a while. Son Jim said he...

You would have 160 ounces of alloy, of which 6.6 ounces is tin. Six point six divided by 160 is .04+, so you would have a tad over 4% Tin, and that is probably sufficient for good mold fill-out.

I have a patio full of stuff, and I make several alloys, but they are all copies of the old standby WW+2%Sn. Alloy 'Z' is 2/1 Lead/Lino +1% Sn. Alloy 'M' is 3/1 Lead/Monotype. Alloy 'F' is 4/1...

Eutectic solder (60-40, actually 63-37), when it melts, goes directly to a liquid state - from solid to liquid, with no plastic state in between. ALL electrical work should include eutectic solder....

Hope this is the right thread - I have a nice k98 that has been re-stocked with a nice cheek-piece stock that I want to replace with an original stock and hand-piece. So I bough a new-manufactured...

See previous response dealing with micro-quantity of teflon giving off micro quantity of noxious gas.
Forum: Casting Equipment
Yeah, but there is such a small actual amount of teflon that the amount of noxious gas emitted is trivial.

I'm 86, and have been casting for decades!
