From your description, my guess is you’re bulging the case.
In a new, full length sized, Starline case, 70 grains would require a good deal of compression to seat the 500 grain bullet deep enough....

The grain direction through the wrist would bother me more than the finish!

I don’t use one but it looks like it should work to cut the strips at least. This could be a time saver. However, I don’t see how you could use it with the precision necessary to cut the angles.
