Anything like this?

Sorted wheel weights? Yeah, at $.30/lb I'd jump all over that. Unsorted? Probably not.

Not sure if anyone's directly responded to your pictures. The wheel weight that you broke in half is almost certainly lead. I see that quite often. You will NOT be able to do that with Zinc or...

Just melt down a few hundred pounds of nasty, filthy battery terminal clamps and those wheel weights will start to smell a lot better! ;-)

I have found that putting the lid on my cast iron dutch oven and just leaving a small opening for smoke to escape really cuts down on the smell. I also keep a fan blowing on the oven at all times.

I agree. Not bad for 100 bucks. Any chance of posting some pictures? I'd love to see what these things look like.

I have a decent stash of wheel weight alloy that I blend with my soft lead for pistol bullets.
I passed on the wheel weights at the scrap yard because a quick sift through the buckets showed a...

I was traveling for work last week and found a scrap yard right next to the business I was visiting. I stopped in to see what they had. They wanted $0.50 per pound for unsorted wheel weights, so I...

I've never done more than about 130 pounds in one day. That's basically my ingot yield from two smelting pots full of wheel weights.

Not sure what you should offer, but make sure to post pictures for the rest of us to drool over.

I scored a free half bucket last week and was surprised at how much steel was in there. Weight before sorting was 80 lbs. After all was said and done I had 40 lbs of COWW, 5 lbs of SOWW, and the rest...

Hmmm... I see you're in Ohio. I can come and take all that excess lead off your hands for you, no problems at all. That way you'll have plenty of time to get your supply smelted.

W231 for .45ACP. That was about 5 or 6 years ago.

Thanks for making a thread about it! ;-)

I frequently buy battery terminal clamps (not the terminals themselves) by the 5-gallon bucket for $.35/lb. They test out just slightly softer than my COWW's - maybe 1 BNH softer. This is using the...

I loaded up 300 rounds of .38 Special using Missouri Bullet 125 gr Cowboy #17 boolits over 4.5 grains of W231 and CCI 500 primers.
Moved outside and smelted most of my soft lead ( SOWW's, range...
Which ones? I used to load the Black Magic 3" 12 gauge slugs in my 870 when I lived in Montana and camped in grizzly country. Those slugs were absolutely amazing. Serious power.

That's how I prefer to tumble/polish. I turn it on before bed and shut it off in the morning when I get up. Beautiful, shiny brass every time.

It does work, but some of us are very anal retentive about sorting our wheel weights. I personally sort all wheel weights for multiple reasons:
1. I like to know around how much steel and zinc...

Dunno. Figured it was probably originally sold for big bucks as xray shielding or something. I'm perfectly happy turning it into bullets.
Forum: Lead and Lead Alloys
It makes sense to just work it into my alloy since I know it's clean and pure lead.
So no special intrinsic value to the thin foil roll that I will negate by melting it?

I recently acquired this pure lead foil roll, which is about 12" wide by .005" thick and weighs about 15-20 lbs. I was planning to...
