They make graphite neck lube for brass. You dip the neck into it to lube the neck for bullet seating. Unless you are concerned with exact neck tension I'm not sure it would be a problem.

Odd indeed. My mother-in-laws gauge does this but it is probably 10-15 years old. Possibly a bad gauge and replace with an oil filled gauge?
