I too mostly use a plastic or fiberglass Rod at the range.
Mostly because I have two rods set up to do things like swab the bores or pull out patches that fell off into the bore .
But when I go...

Wow
You just reminded me of things I did back when I was a kid .
I use to shoot arrows out of my BP rifle because I didn’t have that many lead balls to shoot and glass marbles didn’t fit my rifle ....

I always make my own ramrods from Oak dowels from Home Depot.
If I need replacement tips , I get them from T.O.W.
I also rebuild my old ramrods from poor condition ramrods from used rifles that I...

You can also cut that stock flat , and fit it for a regular padded buttplate or recoil pad .
I have done that for others that were not happy with the curved hook style butt plates .

Question,
Why do you want to replace your lock ?
Is it broken or worn .
If so , can it be repaired ?
Forum: Muzzleloading.
If you are not happy with that stock you have.
Then you can use that stock to be modified or reshaped to your liking.
Then send it to someone who does stock duplicating.
To modify the stock you...

The size and shape may be close.
But is the inletting lined up to the lock plate with the drum lined up on the barrel .
The drum on that lock is the Accuracy Point to locate the whole lock.
Then...

Another reason I push for people to Re Finish the stocks that they have is overall costs .
Like mentioned by another poster ,
If it ain’t Totally Broke , then don’t replace it .
But if you do the...

One thing that will raise the costs if you find someone to make you a new Custom Stock.
It is called “Shipping Costs”
I will bet , the shipping costs will be over half of the price you pay for the...

If you want to use that newer lock on your rifle , you can re inlet your stock to make it fit.
But if the inletting in your stock doesn’t fit because it is in letter too large.
You can do a wood...

The only thing that I see on your rifle that seems like a Wrong Part is the lock mounting side plate.
It looks like it fits the lock mounting screw spacing .
But looks like it doesn’t sit level on...

I can not give you any information on who made that lock. , or what it came off.
But if you have seen some of my posts, you can see that you can fit them to almost any rifle with a little work....

It is just a starting option.
But why can’t you just Re Finish that stock .
That thing you mentioned about the front part of the stock being so thin .
You might be able to Glass Bed that part of...

I think you should post pictures of what you have . There are so many rifles designs out there. , and they can effect the costs you will spend .

I have found that most of my 85% density powders shoot as well as the Goex.
BUT , that is when you measure by Weight and not volume .
But I no longer shoot BP Cartridge or C&B revolvers any more ....

I had him reline a .54 Renegade barrel for me with a 1-66 twist.
It shoots very well with RB’s , but I have not tried any slugs yet.
But I did shoot it with 230 gr .45acp lead boolits in a sabot....

@ Lead Chucker
Your 65 grain weight compared to 80 grains of volume is around 81% density.
That isn’t too bad.
And like I said, if that powder is made with the TP charcoal , it might be less...

From what I have found is,
Powders like Swiss or Goex weigh almost exactly what the numbers say on the powder measures.
I set my measure on 100 grain setting.
Then I fill it with my home made...

I worked on a friends Indian Musket that was having similar issues as yours.
I drilled and tapped the barrel and installed a flash hole liner.
That way we could play with the flash hole size and...

The next batch of TP BP that I am doing today is a little different.
Since the TP charcoal is so light , and the volume so big , I am mixing a batch with 78/ 12 / 10 ingredients.

I just always leave him a message. Then he does return my call when he has time.
But I am retired. So I usually am available to take his calls whenever he has time to call me back .

I notice that the TP charcoal smells more like burnt cotton and paper.
So far , I think it will work good in my BP.
But the TP charcoal is not something I would press into charcoal briquettes to...

I have several Lee Buckshot molds.
I cast the buckshot out of wheel weight lead or range lead just to be cheap.
But I have cast a few out of linotype. But it doesn’t need to be that hard of lead ....
