I agree with you - he uses that 225 gr load on hogs and it’s a good killer, but cattle are much bigger.

I'm very likely going to purchase a Ruger LC carbine - I like the look and the brand. Just saving up pennies at this point.

I have some big game experience with the 44 mag and 45 Colt but nothing larger than deer and big feral hogs. I also use standard weight Keith style cast bullets, usually in straight linotype or a...

Personally, I don’t use dividers - just make one puck at a time since it just doesn’t take that much time. But if I did, I would not want sheet metal or thin plastic, at least .060” thick and a...

The easiest way to make puck dividers is to part off discs on a lathe from the right sized stock. If a lathe is not available, I might try cutting them out of substantial sheet metal with a hole saw...

Thanks for the thread revival, but I finished shooting all of that mixed shot a year ago. Couldn’t tell any difference in the field.

I always felt the Krag was one of the last military rifles that was designed to be fired from an upright position. The stock drop and balance are nigh on perfect for offhand work. The rifles which...

I like to use an inverted black triangle pasted on a white background as a target - aim at the lower point.

It boils down to economics and availability. If you can easily obtain all of these powders without breaking the bank, it then turns into which load uses the least amount of resources. All things...

You could disassemble, remove the spring, then use Prussian blue on the mating surfaces to make sure you don’t have something hanging up. If everything is slick and easy, turn your attention to the...

I’m not sure where I read this, but seem to remember some writer claiming the early 303 rounds were necked after charging, which would have certainly made powder compression much easier. Supposedly,...

You could get a moldmaker to cut that portion of the bullet to a smaller diameter. Shouldn’t be a problem for anyone who uses a CNC machine.
We use these types of drums where I work to tumble metal parts and I can confirm the rubber liners do break down over time - we typically just bite the bullet and buy new ones.

Funny you mention that. My grandmother grew up on a farm and kept a big garden hoe with an adze eye that she could wield like a battle ax. Snakes, rats, possums, etc. - didn’t make any...

Now that you have posted a pic, I tend to agree with the bad brass diagnosis, especially since no obvious swelling seems apparent.

You may have to experiment with a semi-auto for best functioning rimfire ammo, and testing for accuracy should also be a priority for any rifle or pistol, not just autos.

I used to be an exclusive Super-X consumer but also found Winchester lacking in performance, so I shoot Federal .22LR Premium exclusively now. I have an older Ruger Mk II with the long tapered...

Sometimes the larger shot helps when they are flying high on the first norther of the year. #6 also usually punches through so you’re not chewing on lead pellets.
I have always tended to have more accurate results with harder alloys, so long as the bullet fit in the bore is correct. Of course, the good old scientific method sez to only change one variable at...

You mentioned "older 30-30". How old?
It's possible the chamber has expanded or worn - I had an 1889 Marlin in 32-20 that appeared to be in very good shape for its age, but every case split when...
