The gib lock is very secure as is the windage locking screw. I always use a paint pen to mark 100, 200, 300 yards rather then remember clicks.
The knobs are more for match shooters than hunters....

I installed a William FP sight on my Winchester 55. The thing works great. While its not a Warner target sight, its very close. All it needed was some target knobs....Oh Wait. they make them with...

Perfect. I'm glad you all took the time to respond. My gun barrel is also probably thankful as water and steel aren't really friendly.

So could I used something like this on my CVA percussion cap rifle and than use 209?

I have a standard muzzle loader which uses percussion caps. Sounds like I would have ignition issues. Too bad as the stuff sounds clean. Cost per shot isn't too bad if you include the labor to clean...

I like shooting black powder but I dislike the sense of urgency one must have to clean the guns immediately. Accurate powder makes some claims about Blackhorn 209 which sound appealing - like low...

I got the 45 colt down to 6" groups with an occasional flyer which I have no clue where it goes!
I did a lot of work to get there too!! Three trips with a total of 18 loads to arrive at one which...

I intended to use the 45 colt for 100 yard matches, but 6" groups ain't going to get it done. I don't think the gun will pull in tighter groups than that no matter what I do brass prep wise.
I...

My rifle seems to not like the 250 grain bullets. They were the worst if the lot. I tried them with three different loads too. None produced a group less than 3 feet.
The 200 lead and 230 grain...

Yes, he does. I met him there Monday.
I'm going to boost the loads a wee bit more to see what happens. I think they will level out around 4 Moa if I do my part. Right now they are still a bit...

My thanks to all of the help and suggestions on this problem.
I did a follow up trip to try to find an accurate load yesterday.
I loaded up, shot, and chronied the following ammo – all 45 Colt:...

Ramshot silhouette at 13.6 grains in 45 C with a 200 grain bullet will generate around 23,000 psig would which probably blow the toggle right out of my 1866.....

I need some help!
I have a Uberti 1866 in 45 Colt. I loaded up some loads using Silhouette (9.1 grains) and a 200 grain RNFP lead Missouri cowboy bullets.
I want to use the gun to match...
I'm happy with the uberti. It's also very beautiful. I have to think ubertis margins are way lower than lets say glock. The hand work and finish on their guns is more craftsman like than most mass...
Yes all brass would lock it up from a variety of companies. The case would fall back out of the chamber and get stuck on the step. The step was large enough to catch anything going buy.
I should add Uberti got back to me in less than 24 hours asking for the gun to be returned for repair.
I bought the gun at a local shop which had a ruger NV and the el patron side by side. I went...
I'm glad this thread was resurrected as I just bought a El Patron and a vaquero, both in 45C.
I've been shooting trail boss at 5.8 grains with 210 grain SWC, 230 grain Xtreme plated, and 255...
The trigger is pretty rough with a lot of creep for a single action revolver, but that's a whole other thread. I was expecting something more along the lines of the pietta's I bought for black powder...
I hit it with a diamond file. I took off perhaps 0.003". That was enough to do it although it's now bright metal on the edge. Ridiculous that a new gun would need filing to work.
I'll stick with...

Thanks for the tips guys. I especially appreciate the Murphy lead. I have a fair amount of goex FFG but I'd like to try the substitute to cut back on fouling. I don't like how the pistols eventually...

thanks for the info. I am new to muzzle loaders. I did wash out the barrel with window cleaning foam (from Costco) followed by rubbing alcohol to remove the water, than a patch with wd 40, than one...

When I settled on 80 grains of FFG the group settled in at 4 balls into a 2" pattern at fifty yards. The 60 grain load was a bit lower.
Both sights are dovetailed. I'll lower the front one after...

Finally got this out.....put 15 balls through it and the gun works great. I lost the tamping rod about the 7th shot, it cracked at a grain area. Wouldn't of lasted too long anyway.
The gun is...
