I'd like to order a die for an older star machine, along with a flat punch. To size 20:1 metal to .315". I understand it's $63.00. If this is correct I pay you via. PayPal. I'm a many time returning...

What powder charge are you using? I use 44 grs. OE 2FG, 360 gr. bullet for 1125ish FPS.

Dang but you guy's and your old guns are fun!

Yes, that's what I understood him to say as well. The Goex he used was PRE-Old Eynsford. So to compare Swiss to the old Goex we'd need to be using Swiss 2f to Goex 3F. I don't have these two powders...

I wondered about that too. Perhaps a typo on their part when they wrote the book. I'd like to see the second edition to see if it had changed.

Does anyone have chronograph data comparing 3f and 4f in the 45 colt? In all the discussions I've never seen any real live data presented.
I also wish someone with a transducer pressure set up...

I use this recoil pad to temper the recoil, it's super soft and squishy (a technical term [smilie=s:)
You've an excellent set of sights too.

I also used to shoot the Uberti 45-70.
It has a 20" twist barrel so it doesn't handle the over 500gr heavy weights at all.
My rifle liked the Saeco 480 gr. bullet, all the way to 1000yds....

Hi Lead Pot and Distant Thunder,
What is the 22 match you two are talking about. It sounds like a string match. Is it by chance a postal match? Where can I read up about it?
Thx, Jeff

Carnuba red won't work with black powder. An easy way to remove it is to put the bullets in boiling water which will melt the lube. It will float to the surface and then you can skim it off. Then dry...

A 50 Alaskan is one heck of a fine cartridge. What vel. does the 4198 load give you and what weight bullet do you use. Recoil is substantial for sure.

1/36 it's a "freshed out" Danish military barrel. My 75 ish year old little old gun smith mentor had a Marlin Ballard action and decided one day that he wanted to build a rifling machine. So he did...

The round nose is the worst hunting bullet because it will just punch a self sealing hole all the way through an animal from stem to stern. If you use a flat point bullet it will leave a wound...

My Uberti rifle has the 28" barrel, 1/20 twist and the Pedersoli long range tang sights.

I can think of 6 GM barrels in our club. All fitted and chambered by the same local tool and die maker\gun smith. One .38-55, two .40-65s and 3 .45-70s. They are all sub MOA guns.

I use Goex Old Enysford 2F in my 38-55 with a 350 gr. bullet. I've never lost a ram with it. I've also shot long range Buffalo to 1200 yards with it. It was a BIG buffalo!
