Honestly, i was very concerned with the long brass/short brass thing for my rifle. To the point i paid WAY more than i liked for 100 peices of the longer brass.
After a few weeks of experimentation...

Just a heads up, Starline is accepting backorders for the shorter 38-55 brass. Ordered mine and got it the next week.

I went with Lyman for mine, after remembering Logcabinlooms looking for them in a video.
They work well, and the expander seems to be the right size.

oooohhh....a takedown as well? Heck yeah!

so...i need another project like a hole in the head, but a few years ago a rolling block caught my eye at a show, and i began looking into them.
Is there a current repro rolling block that is...

peep/ aperture sights are likley one of the least- mastered forms of technology out there. It was the choice for irons for nearly every military weapon for decades until real marksmanship ceased to...

Nice! those 50-95 cartridges are pretty fat little buggers, and that rifle looks like alot of fun. Something about the '76...even though there are more advanced rifles out there...i still am...

Some good wisdom in this thread. one thing i did not catch- did you slug your bore?
45-70 is one of our oldest cartridges, and its pretty cool that people are still loading and shooting it. Part...

in general, i do not lube. However, i will lube a case or two to smooth things out. On ocasion i'll spray a q tip in lube and wipe the inside of the die with it lightly.

First, i'm a brass *****, and i'll take about any brass offered, or that i can pick up. I've loaded reams of winchester, spear, remington, S&B, Top Brass, and other handgun brass, and most of the...

the Marlin CB is a grail rifle to me, in 45-70, 38-55 and 30-30. There are things l like about the winchester a little better, but i grew up with marlins.
Im going to have to try the rifle without...

My 'poor mans cowboy' 1895 in 45-70 is microgrooved, and once i found the right sized bullet mold- .461"- it shoots just fine at least out to 200. not bad for a $310 rifle.
The procedure is no...

Well.. working harder on load development on 38-55 than i have on any other rifle i load for, even getting cast to shoot in a micro groove marlin 45-70.
After loading and shooting perhaps 250...

picked up a 357 last year, and despite what people say about it, i find it a good rifle, shoots well and the quality is quite good for the price

great shot!
Can we see a pic of the boolet? No gas check right?
Forum: Boolit Lube !
do you find this to be true even with larger rifle calibers, like 45-70? With pistol rounds i just tumble them until the bullets look a bit wet and they are fine. But i worry about the bigger round.

Years ago i got very wound up about being able to make 45 ACP shot loads. I really wanted the RCBS die set...but it was not in the cards, or rather, the paycheck.
Of course, there are other ways...

seems like many are shooting unique and 2400 in the 38-55, getting 1100-1200 FPS or better and making hits at longer range too.
38-55 does indeed seem to be a goldilocks caliber.
just need to...

I plan on trying the longer brass once it comes in stock. Its evidently pretty precious, and people will not sell it or are asking 2.50 each. Though it seems that the shorter brass shoots pretty...

Thats a bit faster than 3031. what is the idea behind it?

I'm making a bit of progress, loaded and shot some 3031 loads, as well as some with Unique. Groups were better with unique, and improved with both powders once i started shooting without my reading...

Well, I thought i might share some of the cimarron saga...
