Biggest I go is a 50 95. It's an express round with a 300gr bullet. That's about as much recoil as I care for. I got rid of my 45 70's because of recoil. Just no fun getting beat up anymore.

Depends on the twist. I had one that liked 65gr. Of goex 3f.

I've never seen the attraction of these guns. Others are obviously crazy about them.

I buy original Marlins and Winchesters with perfect bores in 38 55. I never have any trouble with them. If you keep your eyes open you can find them at the same price as the new junk.

You're going to need a black powder lube. Powder coating isn't going to work.

Speed doesn't kill with black powder and a round ball, mass does.

Does this apply to Cornpop as well? He's one bad dude.....

I nearly always make bold statements reflecting my experience. It does cause people to argue with me. it used to bother me a lot. These days I just don't care. Everybody should just do as they want,...

Lube over the chamber mouths doesn't prevent chain fires. A tight fitting ball does that. Chain fires come from the back end, generally when a loose fitting cap falls off. I find lube at the chamber...

Woops I missed the OP's point. Being this gun doesn't take a cartridge it should not need an FFL, no matter when it was made or what end you load it from..

Much confusion over this. Anything made before 1899 is an antique and requires no FFL to be involved. It doesn't matter what caliber it is. That being said, some dealers ship ALL guns to an FFL. I...

I'd charge at least 2K for a restock. There isn't anything wrong with the stock that's on it. It's an old gun with a new barrel. The stripes are real, not faux. I'd slide a big fat recoil pad over it...

Everybody is going to lose their *** in the stock market pretty soon. I have always made good money buying and selling old guns. The key is buy low, sell high. It ain't hard.

I tried BP in .405 winchester M95 but the twist is too fast and you can't get enough velocity with black powder to suit the twist. I ended up with mediocre accuracy. I assume the .444 would be the...

My marlin in 38 55 shoots a 255 grain .381 bullet well.

I see better prices on obsolete calibers at gunshows than I do anywhere else.

Talk to hoyt about it. He does this stuff all the time.

There is info for lead projectiles in the lyman cast bullet book.

One of my amigos went to tombstone a few years ago. I had him bring me back a bottle full of dirt.

I used to see Finn surplus ammo 20 to 25 years ago at gunshows. They used Nickle plated bullets on all the stuff I saw.

I seen a lot of those calibers at the last gunshow I went to a couple weeks ago.
