Have a bunch of old but unopened Dupont 4759 powder, want to use it in my 38/55 Hi-Wall and my Marlin 1895 Leverers. Found loads for my 45/70 but not the 38/55's. Any recommendations? Bullet will probably be a 255 gr cast.

Hey, Rice; I had good luck with Lyman's 375248 a decade or two ago using SR4759. The charge was 18.0 grains, using Winchester brass, and Federal 210M primers for an estimated 1350 fps from the 24" bbl. This was in a Winchester 1894, built in 1921. I had good grouping at 50 yds (3/4" for 3 shots from a cold bbl.) using a Lyman or Marbles tang sight.
I don't have any notes on the sizing, nor bullet alloy however. And as always, this load was OK, pressure-wise in my rifle, but you should work up slowly if interested. I encountered no signs of excessive pressure, and leading, if any, was minimal. The barrel had strong rifling, but did have some dark areas.
I no longer have the gun. Best Regards and I hope this helps. Best Regards, Rod
RCBS No 1 manual show 20 grs at 1533 and 22 grs at 1676 with their 37-250 FN mold out of 24 inch barrel in a Win 94.
Old Lyman manual shows:
375248 with 10.5 gr (estimated 1050 fps)
375296 with 21.0 gr (1589 fps)
