NYC didn't break off into the ocean......
We felt it east of Philadelphia. I heard an extremely low pitched rumbling like a big truck was driving by but it was lower than usual so I looked out the window to see what it was. I didn't notice any shaking but my son said some glasses were banging together. I know someone who lives in a high rise in northern NJ and their whole building shook for a while.
It sounded like and felt like an equipment trailer dragging a loose piece of equipment.
Then the texts and info poured in.
An old friend is currently working on Ellis island. I jokingly told him to watch out for a tsunami
NYC could sure use one.

This AM We Had a Good Shaking . It took me a while to release what was going On
10 miles from center, startled family, + neighbors - no signs of any damage at all -
Some felt it here in Central NYS, but I was driving so felt nothing.
I am in ne pa, did not notice anything myself, but the dog did, she thought someone was here, jumped up and barked and looking out the window and at the door. I don't here very good so that's my excuse.

I have friends in Philly that felt it and also one in Delaware that noticed things moving about on tables.
Felt it here in southern Vermont and also the aftershock this afternoon. Neighbor across the road had stuff come off the wall and fresh cracks in plaster walls
I lived in AK for 32 years and earthquakes were just about a daily occurrence. Most were not noticeable but every once in a while they were real thumpers. So far I haven't heard of any deaths or real damage. Much ado about nothing.
I’d rather sit through a 5 magnitude earthquake than an F5 tornado but preferably neither!

As of now we have had 11 aftershocks mostly between M1.6-M2.0 but at about 6pm we got a M4.0.
It's a little surprising they don't have more.
The chain of mountains going down the East Coast- in the scheme of things, isn't that old,
and they were pushed up from the land under the East coast states moving West.
Maybe they aren't done moving West quite yet.
I was working on the second floor of a townhouse here on Long Island. It shook the place pretty good as china & glasses were rattling around. IIRC we had a similar one back around 2010.
Funny that people in Delaware had stuff moving around and I am in NJ just a bit North-east of Philadelphia and I felt nothing. I was inside working on my computer and the ground is saturated from constant rain so I should have felt something. The previous one I definitely felt, I was in a paint store picking up paint for work and as I was signing the receipt the table started moving and I thought the guys behind it were screwing with me. Then I saw all the stuff hanging on the walls moving, looked outside and my van was doing a dance in the street!
