My brother is looking for a bbl for this receiver. My research tells me that this model was only produced in 20 ga. I've been looking on the bay and I'm seeing that some listings are for Model 17 but listed as a 12ga.
Anyone ?

Maybe you are seeing Marlin model 17 barrels?
Remington Model 17's were all 20 Gauge. Your research was correct.
gotta be careful with ebay on gun parts alot dont know what they have just got burned 2x on parts
went to gun parts corp they know what there doing
I wish you luck. Those are fine shotguns. My wife has her fathers M17 in the safe. Sadly it has a polychoke but that hasn’t made us miss anything with it.
You may have to buy a beater to steal the barrel from.

Be aware that the barrels on Model 17's are not directly interchangeable; they have to be fitted to the gun. The Model 17's "son", the Ithaca Model 37 also did not allow its barrels to be interchanged without fitting until roughly serial number 866000 or so.
My Remington model 17 has a barrel that can be removed . Give the barrel 1/4 turn and the interrupted barrel threads allow the gun to be broken down into two sections . Are all model 17's like this ?
I usually remove the barrel from the action to make cleaning easier ... I thought all model 17 Remingtons were like mine . I've never seen another ... My Grandfather bought it new in 1929 .

All Model 17s have easily removable barrels; I was just trying to make everyone aware that the barrels are generally not swappable between different receivers without some gunsmithing work.
