I have question you guys might be able to help with. I have a large steel handle set marked for 270Win. After I finish paying for the new truck in a couple months, Id like to pick up a bolt action in 223/556 and a set of 310 dies/shell holder for 222 Remington. Will my large handles work or do I need a set of small handles?
My 222 set came with small handles
Working from memory here, but I believe you can do that... be aware that the adaptor ring is not used with the older, fixed caliber handles, but you should be able to do it. As for length concerns, some of the old loading manuals show 223 as being “either/or” so again, you should be fine. It doesn’t cost anything to try, at worst you’ll find you need another set of handles, but I think you should be able to get by.

Green Frog, Ive got a funny set. They're large, steel, marked 270, but have the replaceable adapter. Why they would designate a caliber when caliber can be changed I have no idea. Thank you for the info and you're right, worst case is ill have to have another handle set, which would lead to more dies... Maybe I'll get a new handles set!
That is a funny set sigep1764, I don’t know whether that was a modified set of handles or one that was made by Lyman just to use up old handle castings during the transition from single caliber to “universal” handles. Either way, it’s another case of “never say never” with Lyman. I’m definitely leaning toward thinking you should be fine with a set of Remington 222 dies in those handles to load 223/556. Best of luck.

Thanks Froggie. I definitely have time to acquire what I need. The .222 dies are readily available on Ebay and Ive got 2 or 3 months before I save enough to pay off the rest of the truck. Reward is the new rifle, full length sizing die, mold, and 310 stuff for it. Then its on to saving 6 months for a house. If the 222 dies end up wishy-washy, I'll pony up for a set in .223/5.56 from cny, but with the large handles and the adjustability of the 310 dies I think it'll work. The handles I have are wonderfully smooth and a good fit in the hand.
A Ruger American in .223 would be a fine rifle for you!
It's on the list along with the Mossberg MVP and Thompson Center Compass. The Ruger sur to price and reputation, Mossberg for price and magazines, and TC for 5r rifling and price. They all have attributes, but will all fall to local availability then to pricing. They all have excellent reputations.
I'm looking for "Special" steel handles, 43 Spanish handles/dies, 348 Win handles/dies, 32 S&W/32 S&WL handles/dies.
It does have the replaceable spring steel piece, Brass. I've been pretty happy with them. Im putting together an ammo can kit to reload on vacation here in a couple weeks.
I just did 100 rounds of .30-30 using my 310 tools, the expander design in the 310 dies was and is just superb!
Yup, came with the original box too!
I need some deep help...
Mainly, I'm looking for 310 .41 Long Colt dies. (or at least the #72 seater die) and a set of Steel handles caliber marked ".41 Colt".
I need these to replace the ones the previous owner butchered so he could load heel base .401's instead of hollow-based .386's.
He cut off a large part of the die & off-center drilled out the nice plum handles & altered the pin & ground on the handles. (really evil)
I am also looking for (in nice for using):
steel handles, 32-20 Win., 38-40 Win & 44-40 Win.
maybe a set of .45 a.c.p. dies
I don't have any really interesting 310 or Tru-Line Jr items for trade just dies for .38 spec., .44 spec, (Have a set of steel .257 REM. handles to trade on handles)
but do have a bunch (pounds) of parts for Colt Signature Series blackpowder revolvers, Walkers , Dragoons, 1849, 1851 Navy, 1860 Army.
Or might have other old reloading stuff to trade.
Or willing to buy.
Thanks
I see light between mould halves, so more for collecting than using!
32-20 & 38-40

Available to trade for 310 stuff!
With the light showing between the mould halves, I wouldn't cast with them. The other four that came with these do look nice and I am keeping them!
Thanks for the offer Brass Magnet, but like you I'm looking for nice usable stuff (that I can also look at).
I have a horrible example of an Ideal in .41 Short that suffered unspeakable cruelty but will relate here as a horror story to be told when the campfire burns low..
Cut down mold halves to make thinner to rebore, bored thru & other side tapped for HP, middle of mold & ends of handles trimmed so it would close. A sad end for a rare Ideal tool.
