My efforts are looking up, latest rimfire jacket test loads yeilded first shot off the paper and lost, next four into about 3/4 minute. With more near one hole groups and always with a flyer way out there.
Back to the swage press.........
SquirrelHollow, have you ever been to Cedar Hills gun club? It's north on I-15 between Blackfoot and ID Falls. Could be a long drive for you, but conditions are not so "John Wayne" as the range you describe.
I drive 25 miles one way to my range.
Might see runfiverun over at Soda Springs.
I will be shooting at 100 meters as the range I shoot on has bad light on the 100 Yards line. I presume that is not a problem ?
Why 100 meters ? In the Netherlands everything goes in meters...
Well finally got a chance to work up and shoot a group with bullets BT sniper provided. Following his advice on not loading them hot I worked up a load using BT's 53gr projectiles over very light load of CFE223 23.7gr in sorted LC brass and CCI magnum primers. First test group of initial load work up printed three shots right at an inch. So I loaded up 27 bullets, left after the load work up, and headed to the range.
Here is the rifle that those bullets where flying out of

The main concern was the long 28 inch barrel with a 1 and 7 twist rate, I had to keep velocity down so as not to explode the little buggers. I didn't bother to chrono the loads because I knew from previous experience with 52 gr A maxs that those bullets will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 2650fps. Which is plenty fast to punch a hole in a paper.
Here is what I got:

Group on the left was fired first on a cold barrel. After seeing that performance I immediately fired the second group on the right. From the looks of it those bullets liked it when the barrel warmed up a bit and it shows. Group tightened up except for the dang 4th shot where it hit at 12 o'clock of X ring, that little bugger opened it up.
At this point the dang wind picked up and I decided to let the barrel cool of a bit and grabbed my 308 to make the time go faster. After about 30 or so minutes of ringing steel plates with 168 gr projectiles, wind has calmed down enough for me to resume my target shooting.
Fired second 10 shot string. Again left side is the first five shots which mimic performance of the first target. Not wasting any time fired the group on the right which again had the dang 4th shot open up the group.

All in all those bullets shot outstanding. I cannot believe how well they printed for being hand pressed. I get similar performance with 55gr FMJs by hornady.
BT sniper I cannot decide which target is a best one so I'll just mail both of them in and I trust you will pick the better one for the score.
I had been wondering if anyone had been out shooting. NICELY DONE! That darn flyer! Out of 20 shots it looks like you only had 1, and at the most, 3 shots outside of the 10 ring with 8-11 Xs.
Thanks for posting your results. Good looking gun too!
Hope the rest of the shooters get a chance to thaw out a bit and get out to do some shooting. anyone can post some targets for us even if they are not the ones you intend to submit. It will motivate the rest of us to get out there :)
Good shooting and swage on!

Nice shooting! :Fire: I was layed off for 7 days - of course the weather was crappy the whole time !! Now it's been sort of nice and I'm back to work- go figure. We are supposed to have another storm move in tomorrow ? But if a can I get early maybe get some shooting in. Going to be trying my 60 grs this time if they don't get it done - I might just have to make up some of those 53 grs everyone likes.:-D

Did everyone that needed bullets receive them?

I've got a whole bunch of 22 RF case jacketed bullets left over from Montana gopher shooting. We used to buy them for I think about $12/K in various weights from the Malta Bullet Co. and use H-4198 in our 223's, that was some cheap gopher shootin! Please count me in, now I guess I'll have to sort some for the match. Thanks-Muddy
Question what size paper are you printing the two targets on?

Got my kid to do it am I good to go 8 1/2" x 11"
Muddy, I'll add you to the list. Good shooting!
Scootshop, Yep 8.5" x 11" and your good to go! That's the one!

BT, At least I am old enough to know if I have a dumb question then probably somebody else wants to know the answer. I can't find your address to mail the target(s) to, where do I send it/them? I put my heavy 1x8 223 bbl on my savage and using some 15 year old gopher loads (52 HMG (Malta Bullets)mixed RF jackets, 71/2 Rem, mix mil cases and milsurp 4895) it shot 1.2" so I guess I'm on the right road -Muddy

I'm in the process of finishing a bunch of new and ongoing firearms projects/fixes that will make me HAVE to go shoot. So, if I can get everything done in time, I might just make the deadline.
My 6mm hasn't been fired since I gave up on that nasty January day, last year. So, I, and it, are just itching to get back out there.
Don't know how I missed this thread. I have a limited supply of bullets left, so sign me up.
Ok so after I saw this thread last night, I got stoked and after getting off of a 12 hour shift and getting some much needed shut eye I woke to perfect shooting weather. 65 degrees, no wind and sunny.
Targets printed, gun clean and ready. It was time! So I raided my ammo stash for the rounds that I had been developing for my 55 FB open tip bullets and went to the range.
Here is what I got on round 1.

I smooth forget to reset my sights on the first group (bottom one or right depending on which pic displayed).
The second target that I shot is a bit better on score, so It will be sent in as my official entry.
