Today's Project - 303 Savage
Been meaning to show this for a while. Finally the brass came in this morning on CanPar. I think this was the last bag of 303 Savage brass on the West Coast. Found some others in Ontario with some in stock.
As you can see by the Product placement maybe the suppliers will reward me for being their shill on this post. One can only hope.
50 New PPU brass, Hornady 150 gr RN Interlock bullets, Hodgdon's H4895, Federal Match LR Primers. Found I needed to lube the inside of the necks a little with Lee's and things went fine. BTW, Lemon Pledge makes for a great case lube. Necks seem quite thin compared to other cases. Well, we'll see how they shoot.
48 out of 50 - 30/40 Krag resized to 25 Ackley Krag AI - only lost two! I think I added a pic.
BTW, I took the pic with my phone, e-mailed it to myself resized to 25%, added it to an album on this computer, found it and added it to this thread - should have rotated it first! If you click on it it rotates! Don't know how that works.
I FOUND 6 BOXES OF .32S&W Long, Finally!!
HooRah !!! Roo Hoo !!!
Cast some more 500gr Minié balls today, then resized them.
Loaded 140 30-30 with PC'd boolits. Went to shoot them and noticed hard closing of the lever on some rounds. Discovered some of the boolits slumped a little. Oops. All but one loaded and fired. Live and learn. Came home and annealed some brass.
8gr 2400 under 170 gr in 300BO cycles and BHB. Pistol gas. ~ 850 fps (cfepistol works too). Loaded 30 with 17gr H110 and 145gr GC PC to feed the carbine.
I have PC Lyman 401043s and had a couple that were wonky. Think I'm going to start looking at the brass. What kind of wonky? Brass usually isn't the problem.
Not much. Set gas checks on some -156's and -315's for son to PC. Started searching through pile of Flat Rate boxes trying to find some more Lino. Found Foundry, Mono, 50/50 solder - but haven't found any more Lino. Dang!
Packed it up because, the Lord willing, we’ll be moving.
Cast about 400 40s - I had 10 lbs more staged on the hotplate but the wife came in and wanted to go walk to the beach...
Loaded up 200 357's. Got a new scope put on my henry. Cast some 45/70's
Attachment 281945
First casting session of the spring. 47-70, 38-55 and 30-30. Feels good!
Set up the pot and cast a couple hundred plain based .358, 158 gr. boolits. The pic at the top of the page has me envious but I only have two cavity moulds. Once I sort through them I will powder coat with Smoke's JD Green. All for my two .357 mag. rifles. One is a Marlin 1894C and the other is a Ruger 77/357. Weather is getting nice. I want to have a walking-around gun like I wanted when I was a kid.
Loaded up the last of the Accurate 30-157 grain in 30-30 cases with 7 grains of Red Dot. Planning on casting more tmro. Then switched gears and loaded 100 RCBS 270-150 grain boolits with 10 grains of Red Dot. These are powder coated and the first PCed boolits im gonna run through the Win M70 tmro.
I annealed 100 7BR cases and prepared them for loading: neck sized, expanded and belled the case mouths, and primed.
you guys casting are making me envious...
Well yesterday I loaded 60 rounds of 308s with culled cast boolits that had slight imperfections to shoot around the house .
Now I'm going to go shoot some of them .[smilie=l:[smilie=l::Bright idea:
More on the story
They shot horrible
Cast around 400 30-157 Accurate boolits this afternoon. Really need to pony up for a 5 or 6 cavity, the two cavity is slow going.
I loaded up some 140 grain.38/.357 cast from my new NOE brass mold resized to .357.” I’m trying to get a load I can use in my S&W 642,586, Winchester carbine. It’s an ongoing project. I have decided & had reasonably good results with +P .38 specials using Universal,Unigue, A#5. I miked the 642 & Winchester to .356. Both are tighter than the S&W 586 which is .358. Will get out to do some range work soon. I will let you know if you’re interested.
