I just got an email from AutoMag asking for my FFL's details - shouldn't be too long now.
Also, the CEO mentioned that they're hoping to get a new payment system in place soon so they can take deposits instead of the full amounts up-front.
That's true, but you also now need a person to take those calls, accurately record them, call the person back to get final payment, accurately record again, and finally send the purchase order to whoever to ship the gun. In a small shop, it may not be feasible to hire a person for only that job. It is way more efficient to set up an online system that does it for you.
I don't get the whole need deposits before they make them thing. Make them, sell them, collect the money, ship them. If your inventory gets too large, seems like 5 is a lot for them, stop production until the inventory gets sold. If you get stuck with 5 that don't sell pretty quickly well you are done and those 5 will eventually move. If you are running a business that can't put a few thousand dollars into inventory, I don't know why you are in business. If they had a .357 with a six inch barrel sitting on the shelf I would buy it today. I will not send them even a deposit. They would sell more if they operated like a factory and not a custom shop.

Probably the same as STI/Staccato - these are not high production-rate guns, these are small-run, specialist items. Like if you wanted a Staccato, as I do, you send in your money and you wait 60-90 days:

Similarly, the Wilson Combat X9:

This isn't unique in the gun world for pretty specialized, low-volume guns. Yeah, I wish I could just plunk down $3.5k and get it in a few days so I totally get it - but the company is new and still spinning up production, unlike STI Staccato and Wilson who've been going for many years. I've been waiting 3 years (I'm an enthusiast) for this pistol.
Agree to disagree. In the last 15 year I have ordered 4 double rifles that were built to my specs from the ground up, including the stock dimensions. Not only were they all "low volume" but I am left handed to boot. In each case a small deposit started the build and the balance was due when the rifle was finished and ready to ship.
It's simply bad business and a red flag to require payment in full when placing an order unless the firearm is ready to be shipped when its ordered.
We each have to live within our own comfort level deciding if to prepay or what size of deposit is reasonable.
No argument there! :drinks:
They seem to be confident that they'll get to that point soon where a deposit will be the norm, as mentioned.
Does anybody here remember the pre-pay for the Bren Ten? Lots of people were taken for a ride.

One way for a company to clean up is take a lot of deposits for a popular item then file bankruptcy. The deposits are carefully figured to be high enough to be profitable but lower than legal expenses of recovery. Spread the debt around as wide as possible, but in small bits.
I got "the call" 2 days ago that my number is up to be built, heading to one of the assemblers' desks.

Look forward to reading your review. Am sure you are excited to finally get it.
That's for damn sure; I questioned my sanity many times. Hopefully nobody else has to go through that in the future but things are looking really positive that they won't.
I'm disappointed that I've not seen a single video of any of the new owners shooting their toy - I figure I'd better be the first if nobody beats me to it.
With the current political climate, I can understand that many might want to be as low profile as they can 2A wise, that could be part of it?
Good point - it's possible, yes. Still, I didn't fight my way into becoming a citizen of this country to wimp out just because Lefties don't like stuff, you know? They can suck it ;)
Someone reported getting #35 yesterday - my number is 39 so perhaps this coming week...
I got the call - my AutoMag is being shipped today.
