Unique love it or hate it, it is hard to beat it........
Any of you guys ever load 210 a-frames in your specials? I know they ain't cast, but I picked up a few & am debating how to approach those. Pearce has some data on 'em, but curious if anyone (here) has run them, & if so, how fast?
What is an A-frame bullet? Is that like a half-jacket?
Problem may be pushing them fast enough with a Special to make them work... They are designed as a hunting bullet and I would want all the velocity possible to get them to expand. Unlike Nosler bullets, Swift A-Frames are bonded so the lead holds onto the jacket during expansion. I would like an impact velocity of at least 1200 fps to fully expand the nose area of the bullet...
Finally got an accurate letter from the S&W Historical Society on a 657-2 Hunter I have had for a long time...

Finally got the opportunity to chrono the 255 grain .41 Special loads that I've been using in the custom singles actions.
Lee GroupBuy mold: 255 Keith style
7.0 grains of Unique
Winchester LP Primer
Clements Custom USFA 5.5" Shooting Master....1036 fps/35 ES
JRH Custom Uberti Cattleman 4.75".................1038 fps/43 ES
Excellent accuracy, moderate recoil and right where I wanted to be velocity wise...
7.3gr Unique and my NOE-255 WFN chronographs 970fps, with superb accuracy. Bit shorter shank below the crimp groove on the NOE-WFN leaves more case-capacity and allows higher top ends, for anyone looking for such performance at lowest possible chamber-pressure
Just something to note between same weight bullets and the performance & pressure level variances that different loaders may be interested in considering when picking these bullets for different applications.
Cool info, guys........
Couple of interesting articles I just came across...
Keith's .41 Magnum Blackhawk...saw this gun while in Boise in 2013 and 14...

Good article on the factory .41s currently available...I know of several more...

Wow, thanks!
Agree.
Before the Corvid tidal swept through, I spent about a week loading up 265gn WFNGC boolits, about 200 rounds worth, over 5gns of Unique.
It's a mild load that hits to POA in my fixed 'notch' Mod. 58 - about the same spot as the 210gn 'Police Load,' but with the impactive 'thawaaak!' of a heavier bullet.
That sounds like an interesting load Nick... I was just thinking about making up some heavy/slow rounds also... Will have to try 5.0 and see what happens. Have you ever clocked it?
Found something on GunBroker that I always had an interest in but very seldom seen...an Intercontinental Arms Super Dakota in .41 Magnum with a 7.5" barrel.
This is a thread I did over on the SA Forums:

The posts by Lee Martin are really great...
Bob
I have a shorter barrel one, it makes a nice companion piece for my 1873.

I forgot you had that rifle ko....that is a beauty... Could you please tell us what it started off as and how it became a .41....
Don't see the Super Dakota around much at all... I wonder how many years it was marketed in the US...
Bob
It started as a 44 Special. I forgot who did the conversion, but the linkage was changed along with the custom barrel. I found it browsing Gunbroker.
The gentleman that I bought it from, used it for CAS, but preferred using his custom 1866 .41 so he had the 1873 for sale.
I restrict its diet to .41 Special (as pictured above) or 8gr Unique with Lyman 220gr SWC in Magnum cases.
According to this http://sackpeterson.com/models/dakota.html the Super Dakota was only offered from about 1965-1970.

Beautiful gun...
Sure would be nice to know who the smith was and if he was still in business....
