Very Nice :) Im still working on a good alloy for my rifle. Trying to figure out the ideal mix of COWW and pure. For me it is very daunting, I should just try something. LOL
Thanks for the info :) Should I size them after the 4 days? This is all new ground for me.

Thanks for the info. I went into sportsmans to get a little melt pot, and low and behold they had several pounds of IMR 4895 powder. :) Looks like Im loading some 147g fmj for the next match this weekend. Then I can get some boolits cast and sized and get a bunch of them loaded to try as well. Happy day :)

Ok wel I will jump on the band wagon with you guys I just picked up a used GSR for a trade of an old pushfeed model 70 338 win mag. I have a 375 ruger in the Alaskan and have had another dozen of the tang and mark II models. All were great guns so when I saw the GSR and asked him to trade he said sure. It had a few pits on the barrel and side of the receiver from not being cared for but the bore was good. Anyhow I have $450 in it and had a friend duracoat it black which looks good. It has a small chip at the tang from the stock being too tight. I glued in the chip with devcon and inlet the tang for some clearance. The factory steel mag looked terrible so I have sanded it down good and I'm gonna parkerize it as the inside looks great also came wth a synthetic mag but no rings or dust cover for said mag. I figure for what I have in the gun it was a good deal even with the minor issues it had. All is fixed other than I'm gonna park the mag tomorrow morning. Who has a good place to get a few 5 and 3rd mags and does anyone have a set of old rings they won't use? The standard ruger style ones?
Not sure about the poly mags for the GSR. Check Brownells, MidSouth, and Midway. I think I can get some at the local shop here but I have to check. I know they have had them in stock recently.
The last I checked Midway had the poly mags for $29.95. They're $10 higher from Ruger.
I use the 5 round poly mags in my GSR and they are very reliable. I love my GSR. I use it open sights only so stock comb height is not an issue. It has finally replaced my 45/70 Marlin as my official truck gun. This rifle with a ching sling is very fast handling and is up to taking care of what ever may ail you. Two legged or four legged. Plus my poor old Marlin deserves a break.
A ching sling is a sling that has 3 mounting points instead of the traditional 2. The third point is just forward of the magazine well. This makes the sling super fast to implement and does not need to be adjusted between carry and use. When it is employed properly it creates an incredibly stable offhand shooting position. The Ching sling was developed for the Jeff Cooper concept scout rifle.
Saz came up today, with family in tow, and we went out and did some shooting. The GSR was just WAAAAY too much fun. "Iron Achmed" was placed at 50 yards, and beaten severely about the torso with 160 grain cast and 168 grain FLGC projectiles. Hits were ridiculously easy from offhand or kneeling,(despite 35mph winds) at whatever rate you wanted to work the bolt. Ruger has REALLY hit a homerun with this little rifle!
Ruger Shop had the Poly mags - I bought 2 5 rounder mags in the spring. I couldn't find them anywhere else.
Took the rifle out today for some serious bench work. Was feeding it 308 MIhec cast HP's that i had weight sorted, and coated with 2 coats of 50/50 xlox and JPW. Cases were all Remingtons and were fully prepped and trimmed. Powder charge was 20 grains of 2400. Range was 100 yards. I very nearly went home early in disgust. First three groups were in the 6-8" range for 3 shots. I noticed the M16a2 flash hider I had swapped on to this rifle was loose and had actually turned a bit. A-HA! I unscrewed it and removed it completely, and shot THIS group! The fourth round, visible below this group is to confirm a dope change made after I shot this group. I only adjusted elevation because with 30+MPH wind gusts, trying to dial in windage was futile. I will do that at a later date.
Very nice, whats the boolit weight?
I just joined the club yesterday. I was killing some downtime looking at Gunbroker and found a stainless 18" lefty new in the box. It should go out today. I can't wait.
Duke: welcome and come on in!

I can't wait. The gun will be here tomorrow. I went looking for ammo yesterday and could only find match ammo at $40/20rd box. I have 37 pieces of range pickup brass and a fair number of boolits ready to load. Monday my dies will be here along with some once fired brass. I've sent my dad a good amount of .308 range pickup in the last couple years, I wish I had it around. If I had some vacation time I could go visit him and use some of his .308 ammo, but we can't shoot there because the range is on federal land, and I'm sure it's locked down.
You would think this time of year there would be plenty of 308 Win ammo on the LGS shelves.
After a bit of a SNAFU between the seller and my FFL, I can pick up after 3pm today. The local shop has some ammo, but it's not exactly cheap. I'll pick up a couple boxes for reference, but I plan on this being predominantly a cast shooter.
