Nice, boz!
I crushed up one of the cakes last night and the density is much higher and probably pretty close to Goex. I will try and get a test of some kind this weekend.
Bob
How much are you guys compressing the powder to make the cakes?
In other words, how thick should the cake be after compressing if I start with 1" of powder?
Longwood I would not press it any thicker than 1/4 inch. The reason is it just harder
to break up.

Busting those powder cakes up with a mallet don't work so hot, I ended up with more 4F than anything else. I don't have anything to use 4F in,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yet. What I need the most is 2F.
Bob
For just a ML I wouldn't be worried about using the method Adam used but for a BPCR I need the increased density to get the max from case capacity. In my last test with the ML I just weighed a charge and found the corresponding volume measurement and that seemed to work pretty well. I don't have that option with a cartridge case.
Not down playing folks wish for convenience but I never thought that dealing with loose powder (in speed loaders) was a problem even in a hunting situation.

Burr conical grinder?Boz that's what I hate with corning.I'm still thinking the grinder. We have
good powder & I don't know what Goex & the rest do about grinding there powder. But that's
why I think the grinder would work.
My binder powder works great in my muzzle loaders.I can't wait to try my powder in this
new Gibbs.I know thats no help in your Sharps, but I'm going to get one of those grinders
to see.
They ajust & I really do think that may be the way to get there. There is one other thing
you could do.GET A GIBBS (wink).

Boz black powder never gets wasted at my house.Just throw that 4 ffffg back in your ball mill
& grind it back into fine powder.Thats what I love about it.

I have one on the way.:bigsmyl2:
Fly, you are starting to sound like my buddies on the US Long Range Team. They have been bitchin at me for 2 years now to get one. They are headed to Bisley in Sep for the worlds. Here is a shot from Friendship shooting the Mini Creedmore last year. The guy on the left holds a whole pile of National records since he started this stuff a couple years ago. We shot Jr NRA together in high school and have been hunting and shooting together for more than 50 years. The 3 of us along with another guy who was killed in an airplane crash in 85 were National Skydiving Champions in 72. A lot of history between the 3 of us.
Bob
My My I could learn a bunch from you guys.Maybe I will get to meet up with you guys at Friendship or one of the matches. That would be fun.

There is a match at Camp Atterbury next month. I believe it is 1000yd, 1200yd, and 1400yd. Nothing like jumping into the deep end to learn how to swim. I went to the 800yd, 900yd, & 1000yd earlier this month, they are still doing artificial respiration on my body.
Bob
Camp Atterbury ?Sorry your talking to a new guy, beginner, recruit!Where is that & just
when????

It is about 30 miles south of Indianapolis on the west side of I-65. Trust me it isn't where you want to get your baptism in LR. There is no backstop and if you don't get on from sheer luck it is a nightmare. I would think that there would be some long ranges out in OK although 500yd to 600yd would be an outstanding place to start. Well actually 300yd would be a good place to start.
Bob
He!! in Okla if you shoot over 200 yards you hit a cow!I would just like to go to one of those
deals to just see what's it's all about.

Have any of you guys purchased one of the burr grinders?
If yes, how well is it working for you?
I have one en route. I made up a number of pressed cakes last week and will be ready to try it out on arrival (the 30th).
On another note I tried my 2nd batch of powder out Sunday in an Enfield 2 band. Results were dismal which is completely opposite from my other results. The reports were hollow sounding and there was lots of powder burning outside of the barrel. I'll give this a try in something else and see if it improves.
