I should have bought a carbine receiver while they did had some. But like always, I procrastinated and lost out. I'll wait and see what if anything shows up and if a decent receiver or complete rifle is in the offing, I'll pull the trigger fast this time. Ammo might be a problem--or maybe not. I see Starline is selling .30 carbine brass now. As Hicko45 says, life is good. james
And to add even more insult to the situation, the local range where I was going to go to get my shooting qualifications, according to their facebook page are closing their doors this week!?
I shot the CMP matches to buy a Garand in the eighties. You could not pick what you wanted and got what they sent you, but at $165.00 how could I go wrong? A few moths after sending my paperwork in I received a cardboard box with a cosmoline (yup, the real cosmoline) covered mess inside. After cleaning it up I was pleasantly (jumped for joy) surprised to find a Harrington Richardson Garand with matching numbers. It was/is so pretty I bought another one from a friend (plain Jane Springfield Armory) just to shoot.
I sure hope they look better than the ones from Korea, the one I bought in the 90's needs a new barrel...
Can you imagine how cool it would be to work for the CMP and get to be the one who opens those crates?
I wonder if they ever find anything stuck in the but plate besides a cleaning kit
Will there be any 03A3
Maybe they'll send a few million 8 round en-bloc clips back to the US also.
Since these are US property the Phils probably spent nothing taking care of them. Indifferent storage in a tropical island nation will probably result in a lot of rusty junkers to be cannibalized.
I'd like to think that since they're US property that there's been some oversite on the storage. I actually can't imagine that they haven't been properly stored.

This is my $630 field grade purchased from CMP last fall. It's a 1942 Springfield and is in fantastic shape. I consider myself well satisfied with the purchase. If CMP can do as well or better with the new guns I will probably try for another.
For wild speculation, manic-depressive mood swings, and a general feeding frenzy when there is nothing in the water, head over to the CMP Forum M1 Garand thread on the topic and check out the guys who are going berserk at the news. http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=208363 :holysheep
Interesting. Seems that not even the experts have any idea on what the condition of these rifles are going to be.
They haven't been shipped yet, no one state side has seen them, I bet the CMP hasn't even seen them yet as there would be no reason for them to fly there to inspect them. I'm sure it will be a mix of condition/grades. As far as prices, they sure as hell won't be any less then what they have sold for in the past, highly likely the prices will be higher. The more hysteria the CMP sees the higher the price will go, it would be in everyone's interest not to be posting on every forum that they are chomping at the bit to get one. The CMP is very good at chumming the waters and creating a frenzy on the CMP forum every time they have any firearms, ammo or parts coming, then they sit back, watch the reactions and gauge the interest, smart on their part.
Just get your ducks in a row, join an affiliated club, fill out the forms along with required proof and send it in now, then they will have it in the system and all you'll have to do is place your order once they go up for sale.
Read the info here for everything you need to know on how to buy rifles and ammo from the CMP http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/rifle_sa...-requirements/
Search for a club here, some clubs you can join online. https://ct.thecmp.org/app/v1/index.php?do=clubSearch
Again, I find it hard to believe that no one from the US gov't or the CMP has seen these rifles.
The CMP has done an excellent job of keeping their prices down and providing us with a product that is almost always in better shape than what we paid for. The Service Grade Garand I received in 2010 was in exceptional condition. Way beyond what I could have bought for $595 in the open market.
Yes, if you want one of these rifles, get your certs now. Get them faxed in and on file. Then grab an affordable piece of history you'll look at every time you open your safe. :-)
Even if they have seen them, they aren't going to say anything, at least they never had in the past. Once they get here they all have to be inventoried, sorted, cleaned, inspected, graded and test fired before they'll hit the racks. Many will go through repairs and rebuilds, parts and wood will be swapped out which could increase or decrease the grade.
Is the CMP Private or Government organization?? The DCM was Government and some say the CMP is now private.
It took me 3 tries to qualify for a $165 M-1. The first time I broke my leg that laid me up for the Summer and I couldn`t finish the required shooting. The second time I had a heart attack with a resulting 6 way bypass (YES there is such a thing as a 6 way) that kept me side lined most of that year. The 3rd time I stayed healthy enough to qualify and later got the `no choice` M-1 in the mail. It`s a Springfield with a 44 date barrel that shoots G.I. ball loads quite nicely.Robert
