Seems a few folks are still living in the $30/k primer days. Of course, there could be regional differences coming into play as well.
But if the rifle is something you want/need, that price seems good to me.

IME (I've owned/shot them), that rifle has only one "caveat" - those receivers were finished in black chrome, and will readily chip out around the screw holes if one is sloppy with screwdriver fit to the screw slots.
I used a dedicated screwdriver on them, that had I stoned off the sharp edges of the blade.
A good buy IMO, and if it's pre-1970, the stamped lifter is easily switched out for a later (pre-1982) solid lifter in about 20 mins.

Look at this way. They harder to find, and not getting cheaper every year. If you want it, buy it. I doubt you will regret it.
BUY IT ! Jedman
Last Saturday I saw a 1950 Marlin 336SC in .35 Remington go for $1300, and the stock had been sanded to death. A later (no idea the year but it had the cross bolt safety) 336SS also in .35 Rem went for $1200.
Around here even beat to death, looks like it was dragged over thirty miles of bad roads lever actions go for $750+ at farm auctions.
They aren't the $100 guns we tend to think they are anymore.

Done. Just need to go pick it up.
Congrats! Can't wait for a range report.

A side eject and top eject are a very different cat for us that need a scope. I had a bit of pre trade thought on the XTR, 375 before the fingers let go of my piece.
