Got a number it will work in but I've already got powder for them. $12lb hard to pass up, though

20-24 grains in 308 winchester using 170 grain lee flat nose bullets (with out gas checks) from an old browning blr. Easy to shoot and fire forms the brass. I like to shoot this offhand rapidly, doesn't beat me up or other shooters around me like full strength 308 does.
I've got the caliber and the mould. Good deal
youse guys are convincing me to try some 4227.
Please pardon the extended copy/paste, but I have found several very satisfactory loads wit 4227:

24.0gr 4227 under Lee 459-405-HB with a .75gr fluff of dacron is my 1884 Trapdoor 45-70 hunting load at 1120fps from 20" barrel.
16.0gr 4227 with Speer 80gr SP and no filler in my Ruger M77 6mm Rem that would put three shots in one hole at 50yds was used as a low power load for my kids when they were young.
IMR 4227 is my go to powder for cast boolts in .308 Win., .303 British and .44 mag. In Marlin 1894.
I've also used it in .45-70 when I had my converted Siamese Mauser.
If I loaded for more calibers I'm sure I'd be using IMR 4227 in them as well.
I've been using it for many years and like it.
Longbow
I use it in my 30-30 with 85gr handgun bullets for a wicked fast load.
In my 357 and 44 mag for a slow, light recoiling load.
17 grains of IMR4227,WLR primers,PPU 7.62x54r cases, and a Lyman 311299 cast bullet sized to .311 in my VKT Finnish M39 Mosin helped me take 1st place in the 100 yard portion of the CBA national match this year. I use IMR4227 with good results in 7.62x54r, 30-06, and 8mm Mauser.
I use this powder in some of the ones I load now with all is posted that it is used in now I will looking into more use for it , thanks .
Yes. The number, with 1 decimal place that immediately follows the Primer abbreviation. For example:
.30-06 Howa Lyman 311467 178 GCRN 5 .309 0.320 IMR 4227 LgRf 28.6 3.078 0 The charge is 28.6 grains.
The number before the powder type/name may be estimated BC, bullet size, or local alloy code, depending on what info' exists
I probably should have typed each line, but the copy from the .ODS file was a lot quicker.
GONRA sez don't forget .30 Carbine!!!
I should be cautious mentioning this in the present company but in rifles IMR4227 works quite well with jacketed bullets also. In 1990 there was an IMR mini manual published with data for several common centerfire cartridges.
Take care,
Rick
My favorite place for this powder is under a Lyman 311332 in a .30-06 case, 25-29 grains works very well, and I have some good M-1 Carbine ammo loaded with it.
I like to keep a few pounds of it in my locker.
Buy it and sell at today’s prices.
A friend swears by it in 17 Ackley Hornet, 17 Fireball and 20 Fireball. He uses a little over 11 gr and makes sure it is all inside of 1/10th gr.
